News And Notes
Atlanta Braves: Rookie right-hander Trevor Bauer made his major-league debut Thursday and pitched four innings allowing two runs, five hits and three walks before leaving for a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning. Bauer, the first player from the 2011 draft to appear in the major leagues, was 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 16 minor-league starts. CF Michael Bourn has stolen at least 20 bases for five consecutive seasons. Since the start of the 2008 season, he led all major-leaguers with 235 stolen bases through Wednesday. IF Jack Wilson has lost playing time since Andrelton Simmons took over at shortstop. Simmons went into Thursday’s game with nine multi-hit games, seven of them in his last 12 ga...

Much-heralded, highly-touted right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer made his major league debut on Thursday night when the Arizona Diamondbacks faced the Atlanta Braves. Overall, it was a decent performance, although not remarkable (4 IP, 5H, 3ER, 3BB, 3K). What was remarkable, however, was the two oddball scenes that played out leading up to and immediately after [...]
It’s probably true that basically any idiot can capture and render into GIF form video footage of a few pitches from Trevor Bauer‘s much-anticipated major-league debut on Thursday. Only one such idiot, however, both (a) writes for FanGraphs and (b) has 15 free minutes on Friday evening.
This guy, is who.
So, without anything further in the way of preface, here are three select...
Chase Utley hadn't played a game for the Philadelphia Phillies since October 7.
Since Spring Training, fans have been left in the dark regarding Utley's health and whether the 33-year-old second baseman would ever play another inning of baseball for the Phillies, or any Major League team, ever again.
It certainly didn't look good for either the Phillies or Utley...
Precocious right-hander Trevor Bauer bobbed and weaved through his major-league debut Thursday, getting in and mostly out of trouble in his four innings of work in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 3-2 victory over Atlanta, a game Chris Young won with a home run in the top of the ninth inning. Bauer, the third player taken in the 2011 draft, gave up two runs, five hits and three walks...
Chase Utley is back! Even better, he is healthy and looks like the All-Star player we have known him to be. Utley announced his return in his first at-bat of the year with a huge bang. His fairy tale comeback began with a monster home run to center on a 2-2 count amidst 45,000 fans cheering wildly.
The ballpark exploded with joy from the upper levels down to the dugout where teammates...
After missing 46 games last season and another 76 this season, Chase Utley's knees were strong enough to get him back in the Phillies lineup. His return was triumphant, but the bullpen simply couldn't keep pace in an 11-7 loss to Pittsburgh.
Trevor Bauer makes his Major League Debut tonight. Carson already wrote about it, and the coverage of his impending promotion has included months of conversation, including a movement to #FreeTrevorBauer. Bauer’s big league debut has been heavily anticipated and is now going to be heavily watched.
However, there’s another guy getting called up from the minors to join the...
1). Trevor Bauer ARI SP 3 IP 4.50 ERA 3 SO
His first outing wasn’t the most promising, but you have to give the guy some slack with it being his first career start. All signs point to him being a stud from here on out with loads of strikeouts for your fantasy staff.
2). Brandon Belt SFG 1B/OF .259 AVG 17 R 4 HR 29 RBI 4 SB
Belt has been hot of late hitting four home runs in...
The Phils’ bullpen spoil Chase Utley’s return to the club as they can not hold down the Pirates, as the Phils lose to the Bucos, 11-7.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men out, Chase Utley hits a dramatic solo home run, his first home run of the season, as well as his first hit of the year, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils then took a 2-0 lead as Carlos...
Chase Utley homered in his first at-bat of the season, but the Pittsburgh Pirates spoiled his return by connecting three times and beating the Philadelphia Phillies 11-7 Wednesday night.
Michael McKenry hit a three-run homer and Andrew McCutchen and Casey McGehee also went deep for Pittsburgh.
Utley missed the first 76 games this year because of a chronic problem in both knees...
There is no sweeter sight than seeing one of Philadelphia's most beloved athletes return to the field for the first time all season. Chase Utley returned tonight in what the fans knew might be a terrible game for Phillies pitching. Raul Valdes was tonight's spot starter in what would be one interesting ballgame.

The Arizona Diamondbacks called up starting pitcher Trevor Bauer from the minor leagues, but I don’t see him as a must-add in mixed league formats. Bauer lasted just four innings in his first start against the Atlanta Braves, allowing five hits and walking three while throwing 74 pitches. Bauer struggled with his control in the minor leagues with 48 walks in 93 innings and that...

According to Iron Pigs beat reporter Michael LoRe, Phillies OF prospect Domonic Brown has hit the disabled list with a right knee sprain.
Brown has been hurt for a while; back on June 15th we first noted that Brown's right knee hurt, but the extent was unknown. Since then, Brown has been listed as day-to-day. The move gives the Iron Pigs...
