The St Louis Cardinals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in Game 4 of the NLCS, taking a 3-1 series lead. One big hit is all it takes. And in Game 4, Matt Holliday had that one big hit, homering in the third inning to drive in Matt Carpenter and give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead in the game. Earlier in the inning, Carpenter had doubled in Daniel Descalso, who led off with a walk off of Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco didn't have a bad night, but was done after four innings, allowing three runs on three hits (all in the third inning), walking one and punching out four. Los Angeles fought back in the fourth against Lance Lynn. Adrian Gonzalez led off with a double, and Andre Ethier followed with a walk to put two men on with none out for Yasiel Puig. Puig punched a single up the middle to score Gonzalez and make it a 3-1 game, and after Juan Uribe flew out to right and moved Ethier up to third, AJ Ellis singled to center to bring him home and make it 3-2. Don Mattingly made the de...

Matt Holliday and Measuring the Moment

For all that can be said about Matt Holliday, one thing that can’t be taken from him is his flair for the moment. On Tuesday night, for the second time in this season’s playoff run, he delivered a decisive and momentum swinging blow for the Cardinals, and has once again delivered them to brink of moving to the next round. Yet when looking at his plain performance, it is easy...

Cardinals 3B Freese leaves with injury in 5th

LOS ANGELES -- St. Louis third baseman David Freese left Game 3 of the NL championship series in the fifth inning Monday night with tightness in his right calf. Pinch-runner Daniel Descalso then made a major mistake in his place, getting doubled off second base to hurt a St. Louis rally. Freese singled to lead off the fifth with the Cardinals' first hit off Los Angeles Dodgers...

Ryu wins Game 3, Dodgers not done yet

Forgive Hyun-Jin Ryu foR not understanding those who said the Los Angeles Dodgerswere DOA, after all he doesn’t speak English. But he does speak baseball. The Dodgers entered Game 3 at Dodger Stadium in a 2-0 hole; however, after a masterful seven-inning performance by the South Korean lefty, the Boys in Blue and their fans find themselves with a renewed hope. Ryu, coming...

Man in Bear Costume, Dodgers Jersey, Dances on Cardinals’ Dugout Before Being Escorted Out of Stadium (Video)

It’s a little too deep into the season for the Dodgers to suddenly adopt a mascot, and the team’s security quickly shut down one furry man’s dreams of making that happen. During the bottom of the eighth inning, a man in a bear costume and Dodgers jersey jumped on top of the Cardinals’ dugout and attempted to fire up the crowd with his team up 2-0 at the time. The bear didn’t...

Hey Dodgers — better not lose Game 4

Does the NRA know about this? The Los Angeles Dodgers have violated one enthusiastic fan's right to bear arms. Take a look: Yeah, not only bear arms, but bear legs, bear head -- the whole bear look. Here's another angle. Whoever the guy or gal in the bear costume was, he/she danced on top of the St. Louis Cardinals dugout briefly during Game 3 of the National League Championship...

Cardinals Win Game Four of the NLCS; One Win Away From World Series

It's only been a couple of seasons since the St. Louis Cardinals were in the World Series (2011) and after Tuesday night the Red Birds moved within a game of returning. So yes, they do have a pretty good reason to be happy and goof off a little. A three-run third inning put the  Cardinals ahead early in Game Four of the NLCS Tuesday night and it turned...

When was time to ride, the Dodgers hopped on the back of the Wild Horse

[Box Score] [Los Angeles Times - Dodgers Now] We told you it would be so; we told you that the Dodgers would beat Adam Wainwright in the Cardinals in game three of the NLCS. And that’s exactly what happened. The Dodgers snapped an ugly scoreless streak by gathering a single by Adrian Gonzalez, and a huge triple from Yasiel Puig with two outs. Puig pimped it as if the ball was out...

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig, Dazed and Confused

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig had a sensational 2013 regular season. After a June callup, Puig set the baseball world on fire, posting an otherworldly .436/.467/.713 line in his first month. He didn’t maintain that pace, but still, at the end of the year, only Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, and Chris Davis could top Puig’s 160 OPS+. He followed up his excellent...

Dodgers take the solo route to stay alive with 6-4 Game 5 victory

So maybe Adrian Gonzalez and the Dodgers are just now hitting their comfort zone in this NL Championship Series? One loss from extinction? If their season is any indication the hole the Cardinals have them in is nothing that can't be solved by shifting into 42-8 mode. Granted that doesn't just happen with the flip of a switch or a Tommy Lasorda inspirational speech. A stretch...

Dodgers beat Wainwrong and the Cards

I have no voice... and very few words... except: Go Blue! These Boys showed up to play tonight! Ryu! He got the best of Waino and the Cards pitching a 3 hit shutout. He was mixing it up out there throw a 94 MPH fastball with a 81 MPH change to follow. If we did not have such a strong pen with B. Weezy and Jansen, he could have gone the distance - but why waste...

For the L.A. Dodgers, it’s Last Call for Drinks

The Dodgers are in a situation where; it’s either beat Adam Wainwright or start the act of winterizing the clubhouse for the year. And they’ve done this to themselves by scoring one run in 22 innings so far in NLCS play. It’s one of those games that looks like the Cardinals are going to win without any trouble. Hanley Ramirez has a broken rib. The Dodgers are starting Hyun...

It’s Been A Long Time Since We’ve Had A Great St. Louis Cardinals Playoff Rally Song

The streak of futility continues because the noises that these gentleman call a “song” is atrocious and we’re going to have to wait a little longer for a great St. Louis Cardinals playoff song. [Deadspin] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Dodgers plan to bring Don Mattingly back for next year

The Dodgers intend to bring Don Mattingly back to manage the team next year people familiar with the situation say. Mattingly's lack of a signed contract for 2014 combined with some much-debated postseason strategy decisions have fueled media speculation that the team could possibly make a change. A return always seemed more likely than not after the team went on an almost unprecedented...

O'Doul Rules!

The Dodgers could really stand to get back to their old-school ways of actually putting runs on the board. These last two games have been....frustrating, to say the least. Anyhoo, with old-school on my mind, I decided it was time to showcase my tenth and newest 1933 Goudey, featuring Lefty O'Doul.O'Doul was tough to find for a good price, but I waited and was finally able...

Dodgers beat Cards and force Game 6!

A-GONE with TWO solo Homers... Crawford and AJ Ellis with one each... And Zack Greinke - he scared us all out the gate but in the end he went 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 Ks and the WIN! Here is Puig and Gonzo doing a funny thing: New at MSTI: NLCS Game 5: Dodgers 6, Cardinals 4, Back to St. Louis http://t.co/fvbWArk61q #dodgers — Mike Petriello...
