The Mets selected Rocky Cherry in the rule five draft, the pitcher appeared in four games ( four innings) in which he allowed one run ( 2.25 ERA) on five hits and a walk. Sometime last week the Mets decided that Cherry wouldn't make the team and began the rule five process. On Friday he was placed on waivers and apparently made it through that process. The Mets then offered him back to the Orioles but they were unwilling to pay the $25,000 fee. Once the original team declines the player he essentially becomes the property of the selecting team, in this case the Mets. But the Mets have decided to release Cherry which seem likes a very unusual decision based on a player who pitched half way decent, could be re-assigned to Buffalo at a min. salary.
