The big question around the Houston Astros is what has happened to Wandy Rodriguez, who was supposed to be the biggest chip at the deadline when the Astros went into sell mode for the third straight year. Rodriguez had his shortest outing in a season and a half in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Padres, giving up five runs in four innings to the Padres despite the first three being perfect. He allowed the first six Padres batters to reach in the fourth and was pulled at just 66 pitches. After compiling a 2.14 ERA in his first 10 starts, he has a 5.65 ERA in his last 10. And he has no explanation. "Everything is the same," Rodriguez said. "That's the way it happens sometimes." Manager Brad Mills was particularly concerned with the two walks that Rodriguez issued in the inning. But still, he doesn't have a great grasp of what has changed from those first 10 starts to the last 10. "It's tough to put your full finger on it and see what'...

As Wandy Rodriguez took the mound for the Houston Astros on Wednesday, scouts from the New York Yankees, as well as the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers, were in attendance to watch the start, as Rodriguez is a likely candidate to be moved before Major League Baseball’s July 31st trade deadline.   Though several teams [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Astros' Lowrie out 4-6 weeks with ankle injury

So much for Jed Lowrie being part of any trade-deadline talks. The Houston Astros learned Tuesday that their shortstop will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained ankle and damage to the peroneal nerve as a result of his collision at second base Saturday. The nerve injury, confirmed by team medical personnel before the Astros' 8-2 loss to the Padres on Tuesday night, is the worse...

Lyles, Astros continue road woes in loss at SD

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Jordan Lyles is still waiting for his first road win. The Astros haven't had one in a while, either. The rookie was hit hard by the San Diego Padres in Houston's 8-2 loss Tuesday night, the Astros' 13th in their last 14 away games. Lyles gave up five runs and 11 hits over six innings, and has yet to win a game on the road in his career. The right-hander...

Houston Out-Ninjas the Ninja: Acquires Intriguing Prospects from Toronto

It’s no secret that I’ve been a big fan of the moves that Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has been making. He’s done an outstanding job of turning the organization around despite having almost nothing to work with. Astros fans will not see immediate results at the big league level but the organization – including the front office, scouts, and minor league development...

D-backs look to Astros as cure for painful loss

After a particularly difficult road loss, the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to put a missed opportunity behind them. A return to Chase Field and a visit from the majors' worst team should make them feel at least a little better. The Diamondbacks begin a 10-game homestand Friday night when they take on the offensively challenged Houston Astros in the opener of a three-game...

Injury updates: Lowrie, Capps and Anderson

Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues: – Jed Lowrie has a damaged nerve in his lower right leg and will be out for 4-6 weeks reports Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle. Lowrie will be in a boot for the next week in order to give his leg some rest. – The Minnesota Twins placed right handed pitcher Matt Capps on the Disabled List with an inflammation...
