BravesBuzz:
David O'Brien writes his latest, covering Jason Heyward, Jordan Schafer, Johnny Damon, and Javy Lopez's interview.
He provides a quote from Bobby Cox on Heyward: "He’s virtually skipping Triple-A if he makes the team...That doesn’t happen often. But in his case we just feel that he should, if he’s going to come to spring training, be given a crack at it,” Cox said.
What he says is nothing new, but I like how he words it, saying Heyward should be given a chance regardless of age and experience just because how good he is. Heyward has already shown he can hit in spring training, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him start the season in Atlanta.
Schafer said: “I just want to play. I don’t care where it is, I just want to play.”
Good to hear because it won't be in Atlanta. The only way he will see time is from an injury. I predict a good season from him, though.
O'Brien speaks of Damon but says nothing new. The Braves won't write it off completely but I continue to believe it won't happen.
Javy did an interview with Atlanta Baseball Talk that turned out rather strange. The steroid quotes are pretty awkward. You'll have to hear it for yourself. One thing worth noting from the interview is Javy heard Eddie Perez could be a candidate to replace Cox. I would be happy with this if Eddie wasn't so inexperienced, but I wouldn't mind it.
