Yankees minor league first baseman Juan Miranda would probably be in the major leagues if he were on at least 15 other teams around baseball, but he’s a Yankee and stuck behind Mark Teixeira. It did make for interesting news the other day when he was almost called up only to find out that it was outfielder Greg Golson who was called up instead.
Now, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News, Miranda is finally getting the call to The Show for this afternoon’s game against the Tigers. The Yankees have not yet made the move official so there is no word on exactly who will be sent down in his place, but it is expected to be infielder Kevin Russo.
Despite the fact that the move has not yet been made official, Miranda is listed in the starting lineup this afternoon at first base with Teixeira getting a half-day off as the DH. Although it should be noted that a rain-out is likely today as it is currently raining very hard in Detroit.
