After last season break out numbers from R. A. Dickey, and his Cy Young award, the Mets were under a lot of pressure to sign him. For starters, the Mets needed a headlining name on the pitching staff, and Dickey's own personal testimony made for a feel good story. Then the Mets traded him in what became almost a nightmare for public relations for a club that needed all the positive press it could muster. So how's that trade working out for you, Toronto? R. A. Dickey: .500 career pitcher. Dickey is currently 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA. After a 20-6 Cy Young campaign last season, he's almost matched his losses after one month in the young 2013 season. And the Blue Jays are on the hook for almost $10 million over the next three years. Granted the Mets didn't have that kind of cash to throw around, but at least they don't look foolish for doing it.The Mets got catcher John Buck in the deal who is cleaning house right now, leading the Mets in home runs and RBI's. Both teams are sitting under .500, but it's the Blue Jays who are in last place. And that is after getting Dickey and almost the entire Florida Marlins roster in a trade. It's amusing too me at least that the Marlins and Blue Jays are separated by only two games in the win column. For once at least, the Mets look good for letting a valued player go. Savor the moment Mets fans, because it doesn't happen too many times.
