Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Nick Markakis, Jim Johnson, Pedro Strop, Jason Hammel, Wei Yin Chen - all have been essential to the Orioles' success this year but as of right now, to this blogger, the most important Oriole is one William Nathaniel Showalter. Honestly, has there been one person that is more responsible for the Orioles' year? Buck has been the rock, the steady-handed captain of this improbable team. He is calm, cool and clearly in charge. When you look at the team the Orioles have beaten each of the last two nights you see the polar opposite of Buck's Birds and, frankly, you see an image of the Orioles' past. Chaos, turmoil and the complete breakdown of communication and power structure. The result is clear, losses frustration and a manager who is currently the subject roughly one dozen office "death-pools" around the country. Meanwhile, in Baltimore Buck Showalter has guided this team and managed them to an impossible season. There is a lot of ...

Orioles Cannot Complete Sweep; The Road Trip Ahead...

The Orioles could not finish their three game sweep over Boston, and they lost 6-3 on Thursday night. Chris Tillman had a so-so outing, the bullpen could not hold a tie throughout the middle of last night’s game and the offense got handcuffed after the second inning. Despite the loss, the Orioles did finish off a successful homestand, going 7-3, and sticking around in the playoff...

Red Sox Must Slow Mark Reynolds in Attempt to Salvage Series Finale With Orioles

Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. Mark Reynolds always welcomes a visit from the Red Sox. The Orioles infielder, who always seems to hit Boston pitching well, has done just that in this current three-game series. Baltimore will...

Orioles Own Red Sox and Take First Game of Series...

In a year that has been the Baltimore Orioles do the improbable, they earned another win over the struggling Red Sox last night to start their three game series at Camden Yards, 7-1. The Baltimore offense led the team to victory with a five-run sixth inning that finished off Boston, and Mark Reynolds – whose struggles need little mentioning in ’12 – blasted two homers. They...

Mark Reynolds sparked a five-run sixth inning with a key two-run double, and Miguel Gonzalez threw six solid innings to lead the Orioles to a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox Wednesday night. The Orioles often...

Recap: Sox catch a beatin' in Baltimore

The optimism stemming from the 14-1 victory over the Indians was short-lived as the Sox got knocked back down again in Baltimore, losing 7-1. Nothing was going for the Sox tonight, with the only positive being the return introduction of Andrew Bailey. Josh Beckett pitched well through the first 4 innings, surrendering only 1 run, a solo homer. Another run came in the 5th ( another...

Mark Reynolds' Pending Addition to Esteemed Group of Red Sox Killers Remains Baffling (Video)

Mark Reynolds is getting hot, so the Red Sox are going to have to find a way to cool him down. Does he like hitting against Boston? Is he just locked in right now and the Sox are the unfortunate victims? These are the questions that NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is considering while the Orioles designated hitter continues to hit home runs. See more in the above video. Join NESN...
