On Tuesday night, during the Oakland A’s 5-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, GM Billy Beane took a break from one of his famous in-game workouts to address the trade for Alberto Callaspo.
The club picked up the switch-hitting infielder from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for top prospect Grant Green. The 25-year-old Green made his MLB earlier this month, and went 0-for-15 with 3 errors in five games. Green was originally selected 13th overall out of USC in the 2009 draft.
Callaspo is currently hitting .252 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 86 games in 2013. The 30-year-old native of Maracay, Venezuela enjoyed his best season back in 2009 when he hit .300 with 11 home runs and 41 doubles for the Kansas City Royals.
