Chase Utley. Michael Young. Jake Peavy. Ervin Santana. These are the names that have been mentioned in connection to the Oakland A’s as the trade deadline approaches.
The names all make sense, Utley and Young would represent an upgrade in the weakest infield spot. Peavy and Santana would add depth to an already strong starting rotation and push someone to the bullpen, further strengthening an already strong ‘pen.
There’s even a suggestion out there from Dave Cameron of FanGraphs.com (posted on ESPN) that the Phillies should include Carlos Ruiz and swing a blockbuster with the A’s. The players he has going to Oakland are Utley and Ruiz, with Jemile Weeks, Michael Ynoa and Michael Choice headed to Philadelphia.
Weeks and Ynoa are lottery tickets whose early promise has mostly fizzled, but both could still develop into big leaguers at some point. Weeks is showing good on-base skills in Triple-A, though he might end up as a utility infielder. Ynoa, fresh from giving up a...

Rumors started flying this morning that the Phillies might be nearing a contract extension with Chase Utley. Is this a wise move for the organization? What combination of years-and-dollars would you be comfortable with the Phillies offering Utley?
Jon Nisula: A Chase Utley extension would make sense from Ruben Amaro Jr.’s perspective, but I don’t think it would be right for...
According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Red Sox remain "intrigued" by Michael Young as a possible trade deadline acquisition. The Evil Ones are also considering Young (as both a first and third base option). Now that the Phillies have sunk to eight full games off the NL East pace (8.5 out of the Wild Card), they may be more motivated to move the 36-year...
Rollins and Utley and Howard... together for at least two more years? The Phillies may be negotiating with second baseman Chase Utley on a contract extension. CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury had a few indications in his piece last night. • A person with knowledge of the situation says the Phillies have...

The Texas Rangers are focusing on acquiring outfield help as Major League Baesball’s July 31 trade deadline approaches but that will not stop them from seeking other improvements.
With Lance Berkman’s status unknown the Rangers have had internal discussions about bringing back Michael Young reports CBS Sports.
The Phillies don't figure to be sellers this year. They have been looking at acquiring talent, but not giving it away, but teams are still asking about one of their players.
Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston reports that the Orioles, Rangers and Red Sox are interested in infielder Michael Young.
If the Orioles acquired him, they would likely use him as a depth kind of guy...
Could we soon see a reunion in the Lone Star State?
The Rangers and Phillies have talked about a trade that would send Michael Young back to Texas, according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark. However, the talks reportedly are considered “exploratory” and no deal is close at the moment.
It’s still interesting to see the Rangers consider Young, though. The 36-year-old spent his first...
Are the Phillies nearing a contract extension with Chase Utley?
The hunch here is that they might be.
Something seems to be brewing.
Again it’s just a hunch but we thought we’d share it anyway.
The Phillies are always super quiet when it comes to contract matters -- sometimes they even fib -- and Utley is intensely private.
So this hunch is based on observations conversations...
Michael Young is constantly spoken of as someone the Phillies could trade at the trading deadline. But apparently, the Phillies continue to resist such a move, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman: Heard #Yankees also continue to be told by #Phillies that Michael Young not yet available, and...
The Rangers are focused on outfielders at the moment but they've talked at least internally about the possibility of trying to bring back former Rangers star Michael Young according to sources.
The need right now is for a right-handed-hitting outfielder and they've considered Alex Rios Hunter Pence Chris Denorfia Marlon Byrd and several others as they look to fill that hole...
The New York Yankees have had their sights set on Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Michael Young all month. He looks like the guy they want most this trade deadline so they naturally keep calling the Phillies about him. Unfortunately for them the Phillies aren’t being to cooperative.
Heard #Yankees also continue to be told by #Phillies that Michael Young not yet available...
The Philadelphia Phillies have been receiving calls regarding the availability of infielder Michael Young and starting pitcher Cliff Lee. The Phillies had originally been against being sellers at the trade deadline but general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that he would listen to all offers.
“I never put any real absolutes on anything,” Amaro said on Friday. “Although we don’t...
The hot stove is heating up as the Phillies decide whether they’re sellers or buyers. Pat and Corey give you their best moves, including whether or not it’s a good idea to trade Michael Young during his most valuable days. They also debate National League MVP candidates and answer fan questions from Ryann.
I make a rare appearance for interviews with Kevin Negandi and Chris...
Michael Young's name has come up a lot in recent days, as seemingly an obvious candidate for a trade. With Phillies General Manager reportedly telling teams Young is not available, it sounds like the team has not even spoken to Young about a trade, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports....
On this day nine years ago, Phillies Nation was born.
I was living in Washington, DC (then a baseball wasteland) and had no quality Phillies news readily available. I decided to take it upon myself to start something I would enjoy reading. Thankfully, nine years later Phillies Nation is still my go-to source for news and analysis on the Phils.
Here is our first post:
