I don’t really want to get too much into this recap. It was a pretty poor game overall. When the Pirates did get someone on base, they either tried bunting (which didn’t work), or didn’t get anything going.
Erik Bedard had it going on tonight giving up just one run over six innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Josh Willingham homered for the Twins off Jason Grilli in the 8th inning to give them the lead for good.’
The Pirates’ only run came on a sacrifice fly by Rod Barajas in the 7th. It very well could have been a three-run double, but Denard Span made an unreal catch in the gap to rob Barajas of extra bases.

Twins hold truly 'open' annual tryouts
MINNEAPOLIS The annual open tryout put on by the Minnesota Twins usually draws anywhere from 100 to 300 prospective baseball players. This year's tryout, however, yielded just around 50 players.Still, despite the drop in numbers in 2012, Twins minor league director Jim Rantz and his staff saw players from all walks of life and from all over the country make the trip to Minnesota...

Major League Baseball revealed the Futures Game rosters today and the Pirates’ 2010 and 2011 1st round picks will be on display for the US Team in Kansas City on July 8th.
Jameson Taillon, who is currently the #5 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com, will be making his first Futures Game appearance. In 14 starts with High-A Bradenton, the 20-year old Taillon is 4-6 with a 4.10...
Jason Grilli Appreciation Day
I've spent a lot of time this season focusing on big picture things, like how the team is playing and what that means long-term. I've particularly been focused quite a bit on Pedro Alvarez, because Pedro Alvarez is maybe the singular most important person to the Pirates success now and in the immediate future and because I don't understand him at all. As a result, I&...
Duensing set to join Twins' parade of starting pitchers
The Minnesota Twins will use their 10th starter of the season Saturday when left-hander Brian Duensing pitches against the Reds in Cincinnati. "We're in June," manager Ron Gardenhire noted, "so it hasn't been easy." Since Gardenhire became manager for the 2002 season, he has used as many as 10 starters only twice, in 2006 (10) and 2009 (11). He'...
Has Trevor Plouffe figured it out?
For those of you who might not have caught it in several other of my posts, I make a lot of bets (and I mean a lot of bets) on things like "Will Justin Morneau record an RBI" or "Will Adam LaRoche score a run" or "Will David Price record over 5.5 strikeouts." For example, when lines opened this afternoon Johan Santana was at 5.5k for his OVER/UNDER...
Cutch welcomes Doumit back to PNC in style
Andrew McCutchen hit his 12th home run of the year last night, one of his 3 hits in the game, helping the Buccos welcome Ryan Doumit back to the Burgh by stomping the Twins 7-2.
Kevin Correia pitch 5.1 scoreless innings picking up his third win of the year and his first at PNC Park since beating the Orioles last June. It was a huge statement game for last year’s All-Star...
Twins cool off Bucs, pull off late win
The Pirates’ bats went cold and the Twins were able to capitalize late, evening this week’s series with a 2-1 win.
Erik Bedard pitched much better, which was nice to see. He allowed a double and a single for a run in the first inning, then settled down. He struck out seven while allowing just four hits and two walks – his best effort in a while. If he can stay on track, the...
6/19 Recap | Pirates 7 Twins 2
The losing streak is now fully behind the Pittsburgh Pirates as they rattled off their third straight win on Tuesday night against the Twins. They did it with a solid start from none other than Kevin Correia, who wasn’t efficient but kept the Twins off the board. He went 5.1 innings and gave up four hits and no runs. He struck out two and walked one. Tony Watson stranded two...
Twins look to even series with Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates may be known as one of the worst hitting teams in the major leagues, but they've been doing their best to rid themselves of that reputation lately.
Given how well Francisco Liriano has pitched since returning to the Minnesota Twins' starting rotation, he may be able to cool off their hot bats.
Pittsburgh looks to match a season high with its fourth...
Pirates 9, Twins 1
James McDonald pitched his first career complete game, Garrett Jones hit one of Pittsburgh's three home runs and the Pirates won for the fourth time in five games, 9-1 over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.
McDonald (6-3) continued his breakthrough season by allowing one run, six hits and no walks with five strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 2.19. He has allowed one run or...
Game 66: Pirates 7 Twins 2
One of the best things about the Pirates thus far in 2012 is that when the play a bad baseball team, they don't mess around with them. The Twins are a pretty bad team this year and the Pirates took advantage of that from the outset of this one. When the Twins tried to fight their way back into it, the Pirates slammed the door shut. This game got off to a weird start when Josh...

Barajas’ sac fly not enough
Tonight was Francisco Liriano’s turn to have a good start for a change. Unfortunately, Liriano is not a Pirate, and his 6 strikeouts, 4 hits, and 1 run were not what the Pirates needed tonight. Liriano never allowed more than one hit in an inning. The only big inning for the Pirates was the 7th, [...]
