In honour of Cleveland Indians Asdrubal Cabrera and Chris Perez making the 2012 American League All-Star team, we hereby present them with a copy of a October 3, 2000 resolution executed by the Penobscot Indian Nation (of which Louis Sockalexis was a member), by which the Penobscots urged the Cleveland Indians organization to, “immediately drop the use of the mascot Chief Wahoo, which would demonstrate the team understands the disrespect this symbol represents to the Penobscot Nation.” Or since we can’t find a copy of the resolution, we’ll present Cabrera and Perez with this link to a 2007 story in the Kennebec Journal about it. In 2000, the Penobscot Nation’s Tribal Council passed a resolution that asked the Cleveland Indians to “eliminate” the Chief Wahoo logo. “Louis Sockalexis was a handsome, talented and proud Penobscot Indian who is neither being recognized nor honored by the cartoon mascot ‘Chief Wahoo,’ ” the resolution states. Penobscot leaders sent ...

Report: Hafner not ready to join big league club

We thought that Travis Hafner might be joining the Indians today for their series opener with the Angels. Hafner began his rehab stint with the Clippers on June 27th, but has only appeared in two games.  He has gone 1 for 6 in those games with an RBI and 2 strikeouts. With Lonnie Chisenhall’s injury, it was thought Hafner would be brought back quickly. That isn’t the case- ...

Box Score: Indians 0, Angels 3

The Tribe mustered a mere 5 hits and left the bases loaded in the 7th (after loading them with nobody out). Jimenez pitched well, but not well enough as Jared Weaver baffled Tribe hitters. Carlos Santana was 1 for 3 in his return to the line-up. Scoring Summary Top 5th: LA Angels - E. Aybar hit sacrifice fly to deep center, H. Kendrick scored Top 7th: LA Angels - H...

Indians disappointed Kipnis not an All-Star

The Indians have two players going to the All-Star game in Kansas City next week. They believe second baseman Jason Kipnis should be there, too. Kipnis was left off this year's squad despite a strong first half in his first full season in the majors. The 25-year-old entered Monday's game against Los Angeles batting .275 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. He's also got three...

Indians Weekend Wrapup: Defying The Odds

I swear I will never be able to figure out this particular Indians club. They entered Baltimore on a five-game losing streak, looking as bad as they have all season. The offense couldn’t score in Amsterdam’s Red Light District with a fist full of hundreds, and the pitching had become extremely suspect. It was (and still is) danger time for our Wahoos. Scheduled to face three...

MMTT: Indians have uneven week, finish uneven June

Follow @ClevelandDTR By: Eric Grinnell The Cleveland Indians had an extremely uneven week, which was a fitting end to a very uneven June. Things looked bleak to start the week, as the Indians were swept by the Yankees and got outscored in the 3 game series, 18-9. But the Indians bounced back nicely to take 3 out of 4 at Baltimore, and outscored the O’s 33-17. The Indians...

Box Score: Indians 6, Orioles 2

Something tells me the Tribe’s bats will sad to leave the friendly confines of Camden Yards.  Shelley Duncan hit his second home run in as many days, Aaron Cunningham hit his first homer of the season, and Justin Masterson scattered five hits over seven innings to get the win 6-2. All-Star Chris Perez pitched a scoreless 9th (not a save situation!) for the Indians, who improved...

Hafner has injection in sore back

Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner has had an injection in his lower back. Trainer Lonnie Soloff said the procedure was done Friday to help relieve lower back inflammation. The 35-year-old Hafner went to the disabled list for the ninth time in his career Thursday. There is no timetable for his return. Second baseman Jason Kipnis missed his second straight start with a sore...

Indians to honor Doby's AL integration

The Cleveland Indians will celebrate the 65th anniversary of Larry Doby's integration into the American League with a street commemoration and on-field ceremony on July 6. Doby was the first-ever black player to play in the American League when he took the field for the Indians in 1947. The ceremony will take place immediately following Friday night's game against the...

Angels' lose lead on error, fall to Indians

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Rookie Zach McAllister lasted six innings, overcoming a throwing error and two home runs in the fifth, and Shelley Duncan homered to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 9-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. McAllister (3-1) allowed three earned runs and eight hits, and he and the Indians recovered after blowing a four-run lead. Duncan homered in the...

Angels 3 Indians 0: Weaver Blanks Tribe

This just in – Angels starter Jered Weaver is good at baseball. This also just in – the Indians offense struggles from time to time. Sometimes you sit back and watch a game and have to just chalk it up to being dominated by a great pitcher. That was certainly the case last night as Weaver completely befuddled the Tribe for six innings. But in the seventh, with the Indians trailing...

Indians beat Orioles behind Masterson

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Justin Masterson pitched seven innings of five-hit ball, Shelley Duncan homered and hit two doubles, and the Cleveland Indians beat the skidding Baltimore Orioles 6-2 Sunday. Aaron Cunningham also homered for the Indians, who took three of four from the Orioles. Cleveland totaled 55 hits in the four games, including eight for extra bases in the finale. The Indians...

Series Preview: Angels at Indians 7/2-4

The Indians series win over the Orioles combined with the White Sox loss to the Yankees has put the Indians back into the passing lane for the Central Division title. Now only 1.5 games back, the Tribe will come back home to face the hot Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels have won 7 of their last 10 and made up for a terrible start by getting back within 5.5 games of the AL...
