Yanks Fan vs Sox Fan:
The Yanks signed Andruw Jones to a one-year contract for $2mill with another $1.4 mill in incentives. Still a power threat against lefties, Jones is likely to see more playtime in the outfield in 2012 to make room for Montero to get a fair amount of right-handed DH duties. Though Jones looked a bit portly in the pinstripes last year, I did enjoy the ridiculous moonshots he launched on occassion. And a greatly-diminished-late-in-career Jones is every bit as good defensively as Swisher, though I'd rather see Gardner's time in left maximized.
In other news, the Yanks signed former Sox Hideki Okajima to compete in Spring training for the LOOGY role.
Happy New Year everyone.

NY Yankees: Curious Offseason Leads to Many Questions, Few Answers
When an actor in Hollywood takes on an iconic role, the biggest concern for that actor is the possibility of becoming typecast, in other words so identified with that role and character that audiences, and more importantly movie producers, lose the ability to see the actor as any other character. The late Christopher Reeve, who starred in four separate Superman movies in the 1970...

Yankees continue search for pitching. Is anyone worth the price?
It’s been a quite offseason for the Yankees. Outside of signing starting pitcher CC Sabathia to a contract extension, there have been no big money moves by New York. That seems unlikely to change, by choice, according to Yankees team president Randy Levine.
They may not want to spend big money, but the team is still in search for a starting pitcher. Ideally they would like...

Latest On Yankees, Nakajima
The Yankees aren’t likely to sign Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima by Friday’s 4pm CDT deadline, one person with knowledge of the situation told Marc Carig of the Star Ledger. The Yankees see Nakajima as a bench player and intend to pay him like a backup, Carig reports on Twitter.
In theory, the Yankees have until Friday evening to sign Nakajima. However, they’d have...

A-rod’s been busy since the break-up with Cameron Diaz. He’s been staying in shape by working out in random Boise, Idaho gyms. Yes, Wilson is from Boise which...

The healthy confidence Alex Rodriguez carried into Spring Training last year prompted at least one observer to wonder aloud if the Yankees third baseman was heading toward a reprise of his 2007 American League MVP Award campaign.
Yankees 2011 in Review
Early exit
The Yankees took the AL East with 97 wins but lost in 5 to the Tigers in the ALDS, leaving their 2011 season to be viewed only way: as a failure. Joe Girardi now has hit for an inconsistent managerial cycle across his first four years: missed the...
The One Where We Discuss The Yankees Rotation, And The Rays Bullpen
Off-Season (click image for random Wikipedia page)
The Yankees “desperately” want to add a #2 starter to their rotation according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. And the two leading candidates should be very familiar to Rays fans.

The Yankees continue to negotiate with Hiroyuki Nakajima, and a team official clarified that the deadline to sign the shortstop is Jan. 6 — not Jan. 3, as some reports said.
Heyman On Garza, Jackson, Varitek
The Yankees and Red Sox have approached the offseason with uncharacteristic restraint -- at least so far. Freddy Garcia ($4MM deal with the Yankees) and Nick Punto ($3MM deal with the Red Sox) represent their most extravagant open market expenditures of the winter. Here’s the latest on the longtime American League rivals from Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com:
The Yankees “desperately...
