Found December 09, 2012 on High Cheez:
Now with Revere and Span gone, the Twins are going to turn, most likely, to Darin Mastroianni to fill in as the starting center fielder and leadoff hitter.  However, with only 78 major league games under his belt, the former 16th round draft pick, is not exactly what any major league team would be excited to call their game day starter in the #8 position.  He batted only .252 last season with 45 K's to just 18 walks and a .328 OBP.  One bright spot however, is the 21 stolen bases which put him 2nd on the team behind Ben Revere's 40.  So as long as he can get on base, he can make some things happen on the base paths.  Mastroianni's defense isn't anything worth noting, however, and is a far cry from the glove work of Span or Revere. Aaron Hicks So what's the full time answer at center field?  More than likely, the position will be open for 2008 first round draft pick Aaron Hicks.  He put together a nice season in AA last year hitting .286 with 13 hr&#...

Vance Worley a nice move by the Twins

After trading Denard Span to the Nationals earlier in the off season, it seemed rather odd that the Minnesota Twins would also trade his replacement, Ben Revere. However, the Twins improved their present rotation with Vance Worley in the deal and also received a decent prospect in Trevor May. With the myriad of problems the Twins had last season, the pitching was the largest...

Jason Lane returns to the Bigs, signs with Minnesota Twins

One significant year in Independent baseball and Jason Lane is back in the big leagues. During the Baseball Winter Meetings, the Minnesota Twins signed Jason Lane to a minor league deal.  I profiled Lane in August and at the time was named pitcher of the month for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League.  Lane’s signing was detailed on the Skeeters’ website and he...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The GM’s next creative juggling

Michael Young is the 2nd domino to fall for the Philadelphia Phillies.  How will the remaining dollars be spent by Rube Amaro? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: My articles are designed to represent a baseball-man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box.  Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the stick-glove-or-power requirements...

Fare thee Well, Ben Revere

The Twins, taking my advice and not standing pat, continued making moves at the Winter Meetings to improve pitching in the organization, a desperate and drastic need, this time shipping out Ben Revere to the Phillies for a couple of young arms, and in a Shyamalanian twist the return they got for him looks more impressive than what they got for his predecessor (mentor?  elder?) Denard...

Mientkiewicz to manage Twins' Fort Myers farm team

Known during his time with the Minnesota Twins for his hard-to-spell last name, his trademark bubble gum bubbles and his defense at first base, Doug Mientkiewicz will now be known as a baseball manager. The 38-year-old Mientkiewicz was named Monday as the manager of the Fort Myers Miracle, the Twins High-A affiliate, for the 2013 season. "I'm excited to join the Minnesota...

Twins and Liriano hit snag on deal to return

While the Minnesota Twins have spoken to left handed pitcher Francisco Liriano about a return those talks have cooled. According to the Star Tribune the Twins and Liriano have hit a snag. Minnesota is currently trying to fill out their rotation and ideally would like to sign two inexpensive options at the back end. Apparently Liriano would like either more years or dollars. Liriano...

Twins Rumors: Talks with Francisco Liriano ‘Backwards’

In their search for starting pitching, the Minnesota Twins were reportedly showing interest in Francisco Liriano. However, talks between Liriano and the Twins have gone “backwards” recently, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune. Was told things have gone "backwards." RT @viking780: @lavelleneal any news on liriano did twins make him an offer...

Phillies on a limited budget? Trade for Revere a good business move

The Phillies passing on some “overpaid” big name free agents have traded for Ben Revere, sending Vance Worley and Trevor May to the Twins. The Phils who are in dire need of offense and power will get little of either in acquiring Revere. Last season with the Twins Revere hit .294 ,stole 40 bases, and drove in a paltry 32 runs in 553 at bats. What makes the 24-year-old Revere...

Twins sign Kevin Correia to nonsensical two-year deal

When I think of impact moves for the 2013 season and beyond, the Twins giving Kevin Correia $10 million over two years is near the bottom of my list of all of the transactions that have happened this winter. I can't even sit here and pretend that signing Correia makes the Twins a better team, because quite frankly, it really doesn't. The 32-year old Correia is coming...

Terry Ryan’s night moves

At 930 this evening (roughly), the Twins came to terms with right hander Kevin Correia to a 2 year, 10 million dollar deal. Let’s let the Twins put the most positive spin on this signing that could possibly be made. Correia posted a 4.21 ERA with 89 strikeouts and 46 walks in 171 innings with the Pirates last season. The 32-year-old, who had a 51.2 percent ground-ball rate, which...

Phillies Don't Want to Sell Us Michael Young Or Ben Revere Jerseys This Christmas

So the Phillies finally made some acquisitions. Since Christmas is almost here and I have some money to burn, what better gift for myself or for my Phillies loved ones than to get a brand new jersey with one of the Phillies' new players. So I went to Phillies.com shop...

Report: Phillies Talked with Cleveland About Cabrera

(MLB.com) Ben Revere or Asdrubal Cabrera? According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Phillies were in talks to acquire Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to play third base. They offered the Indians Vance Worley and a prospect (seemingly Trevor May), but Cleveland asked for a little more and the Phillies backed out. From Hoynes: Before the start of the winter meetings...

The Calm Before the Storm?

In Ruben We Trust. Hopefully. Last week ended on a pretty crazy note for Phillies fans. First, Vance Worley and Trevor May were shipped to Minnesota for young center fielder Ben Revere. It gave people plenty to talk about, whether they debated the "steep price" the team paid for a...
