On Paper
The Vottery!

The Reds took a huge step in showing their fans that they are ready to compete today and in the future by signing Joey Votto to a 10 yr extension worth $225 million. The 2010 NL MVP and career .316 hitter is only 28 and barring injury should continue to produce. This week the Reds also announced they should also be able to sign Brandon Phillips to a long term deal very soon. The Reds are ready to get back to winning like it’s the 70′s again.

Upset Potential
2012 or 1992?

The 2nd Round of the Masters is in the books and one of the guys at the top of the leaderboard is a blast from the past! Fred Couples played a great round of golf, shooting a 67 to put him at 5-under for the tournament. I was waiting to see a Lynx commercial with his sweet swing. The 52 yr. old Couples is the oldest man to hold the 36 hole lead at Augusta. Fred Couples won this tournament in 1992, his only Major, and a victory this weekend would certainly be a huge upset.

Don’t Bother
Demarcus Cousins mouth

Demarcus Cousins has never been at a loss for words and now he is challenging Blake Griffin. Of course ,he is only challenging him with his words! After their last meeting, a rough contest, Cousins called Griffin an “actor” after Griffin downplayed the head-to-head matchup. Cousins fouled out in 18 minutes of action which included the loss by the Kings. The former Wildcat should stop concerning himself with how “tough” Blake Griffin is and figure out how to make his team better.

Veteran Rolen a role model for younger Reds

CINCINNATI Scott Rolen made an error on the second play of the season and it was as shocking as if somebody opened a bottle of Dom Perignon and found distilled water. It just doesn't happen and Rolen has eight Gold Gloves in his Jasper, Ind., den to prove it. And he proved it later in the game with at least three above-and-beyond plays, two of them of the spectacular persuasion...

Chapman shines as relief pitcher in Reds' win

CINCINNATI There are those in Cincinnati Reds country who howled, kicked and screamed when they heard that Aroldis Chapman was plopped into the bullpen for the start of the 2012 season. They argue that the team paid 30 milllion U.S. for the Cuban-born lefthander and 30 milllion U.S. should be the salary of a starter, not a bullpen guy who may or may not pitch on a given day or...

Fish spoil Latos' debut, Reds fall 8-3

Any hope of an undefeated season went astray on Saturday as the Marlins (1-2) raced past the Redlegs (1-1) 8-3 on Opening Night. Mat Latos made his much-anticipated Reds debut, but the results proved to be less than stellar. Nonetheless, the team still has a chance at taking the series on Sunday. But for now, let's focus on the good, the bad and some notables from Saturday...

Marlins try for season's first win against Reds

The Cincinnati Reds had to give up plenty to acquire Mat Latos in the offseason, but general manager Walt Jocketty was certain that having Johnny Cueto and the young right-hander at the top of the rotation would make a significant impact. Cueto did on Opening Day, and now it's Latos' turn. Latos makes his Reds debut Saturday night at Great American Ball Bark, where he&...

Cincinnati Opening Day 2012: The Perfect Opening Day

It's Cozart's Turn

For a franchise known for stability at shortstop with Dave Concepcion and Barry Larkin, it’s been anything but that in Cincinnati since the latter’s retirement in 2004. Paul Janish beginning his season in Louisville means the Reds will start their seventh different shortstop in the last eight openers. Rookie Zach Cozart looks begin a new trend when the Reds open tonight.
