PLAYERS: Bruce Chen
TEAMS: Kansas City Royals
Royals_vs_tigers_b930
The 34-year-old lefty has played pretty solidly for the Royals the past three years. In 20 starts last year, Bruce Chen won 12 of them and had a 3.77 ERA. In order for the Royals to have a successful season they are going to need dependable veteran players like Chen. Also you have to consider the fact that Chen only has a base salary of 2 million dollars. I believe that Dayton did a hell of a job, snagging Chen for only 2 million. And, you better believe that Chen will be on my fantasy team. Most people will not draft him allowing me to pick up a solid pitcher in free agency. How do you guys think Chen will play this year?

Royals pick Chen to start opening day vs Angels

Bruce Chen, who led the Kansas City Royals in wins the past two years, will be the opening day starter on April 6 at the Los Angeles Angels. Manager Ned Yost made the announcement Tuesday after Chen had his best spring training outing in a 9-7 victory over Milwaukee, holding the Brewers to three runs and seven hits in six-plus innings, while striking out six and walking one. Chen...

Royals sharp looking uniforms get even sharper

Although the 2012 Royals uniforms were revealed months ago, sports uniform obsessor, Paul Lukas of Uni Watch has released his complete 2012 MLB uniform preview. Lukas blames the relatively unnoticed "solid-looking" uniforms on the fact the Royals have been "so bad for so long". Royals Uniform Preview: A very solid-looking club whose uniforms rarely get...

Royals RHP Paulino to 15-day DL with sore elbow

Royals right-hander Felipe Paulino will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow. Kansas City announced the move Wednesday. Paulino was competing for a rotation spot, but has been erratic in spring training. He'd allowed 10 runs and 13 hits in 9 2-3 innings in his last three appearances. He went 4-6 with a 4.11 ERA in 21 games after the Royals acquired...

Can Broxton regain his All Star form?

All it took was a good hunting trip with Ned Yost and Jeff Franceoneur to get Jonathan Broxton interested in playing for the Royals.  The Royals took a gamble on a pitcher who was coming off an injury, but was a proven All Star arm in the bullpen.  The Royals now have multiple viable closing options and after the injury to closer Joakim Soria a proven closer may be what they need...

2012 Key Players: Moustakas hopes to establish himself in year two

When Mike Moustakas banged a homer in just his second game as a big leaguer, hopes soared. And when he had a .385 average with four walks after four games, it looked like he was on his way to a great rookie season. Mike Moustakas by Erika Lynn But things went sour from that point on. By the time September rolled around, you had to wonder if Moustakas could hit big league pitching...

MLB Network adds former Phillie Mike Sweeney to lineup

Mike Sweeney's stint in Philadelphia was brief, but he quickly became a fan favorite and was the kind of player you could really pull for. With his positive attitude and his willingness to share hugs with everyone who did something well, Sweeney was certainly a guy that fit well in any clubhouse he suited up in. Now Sweeney will be suiting up ina  different way. According...

Kansas City Royals Season Primer

2011 RecapThe Royals finished fourth in the AL Central in 2011, posting a 71-91 record. Despite the struggles, the team saw the debuts of its two top prospects. Third basemen Mike Moustakas (.263 BA, 5 HR, 30 RBI) showed glimpses of why he was the #2 overall pick in the 2007 draft, and will likely show more power in 2012. Royals Get to Gallardo in 9-7 Kansas City Victory

It's been a very good Spring for the Brewers starters, but it hasn't been perfect and Yovani Gallardo proved that today as the Kansas City Royals roughed up the Milwaukee ace for 4 runs on their way to a 9-7 victory at Maryvale Baseball Park.  The likely opening day starter went 5 innings, gave up 6 hits, 1 walk, and 4 runs.  However, Gallardo also struck out 6 Royals in...
