What better way to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the shocking day Jim Riggleman quit as manager of the Washington Nationals than with the classic photo above of Riggleman drowning his sorrows that night with some young ladies at Caddies in Bethesda. "I was solving the world's problems last night at Caddies...I had to let those ladies get a look at me...There are some beautiful young ladies in that place!" (Jim Riggleman, via 106.7 The Fan DC, 6/24/2011) What a difference a year makes; that the team had its head above .500 in late June last year was cause for celebration. They've come a long way in a year... On the other hand, here's video of an interview with Jim Riggleman, manager of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, Double-A affiliate of the Reds: Befriend the Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter.

No offense for Zimmermann, Zimmerman

(Another 0-4 night. How's the shoulder, Zim? Screencap via MASN.) Orioles 2, Nationals 1: Davey's Baltimore Homecoming ruined. Jason Hammel dominates Nats, again (5-0 for his career). No run support for Jordan Zimmermann, again. Jesus Flores came thisclose to tying the game with two outs and two on in the 7th, but lined out to a leaping J.J. Hardy. No...

"We need to score more. That's not in question."

"We need to score more. That's not in question." (Ryan Zimmerman, via NatsInsider, 6/24/2012) Peter Angelos's team beats Ted Lerner's team in 2012 Battle of the Beltways. MASN-Nationals battle still undecided. Smart money is on Lerner for that one. Orioles 2, Nationals 1 (Sunday): Seems only fitting that the only run the Nats could muster was...

2012 Fantasy Baseball, Week 12: Mike Morse (The Beast) Is Back!

Mike Morse (credits below) “The Beast” is back. Michael Morse finally hit his first homerun since returning from injury. This could be the beginning of a return for the surprising slugger of last year. Is it time to get him while his value is still unknown? The short answer is “yes.” While he isn’t a household name just yet, the power potential in a HR-starved MLB is too...

Can The Nationals Remove Clippard From Closer’s Role When Storen Returns?

When Drew Storen went down with bone chips in his throwing elbow during spring training, it opened a world of concern for the Washington Nationals. Brad Lidge, the former All-Star closer, looked like a great signing to fill the gap, but then he fizzled out and was designated-for-assignment. Henry Rodriguez got the chance to close but was about as reliable as your dad’s 1971 Ford...

Here's the "Clown Question Bro" beer logo

So the Denver Beer Co. will have its "Clown Question Bro" beer ready just in time for the Nationals arrival in Denver on Monday. And there's the logo, above, apparently just released... So is the trademark Harper applied for for the phrase "that's a clown question, bro" only for "wearing apparel" (shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets,...

Bryce Harper Plans To Trademark The Phrase, 'That's A Clown Question, Bro'

It was his trademark phrase. And now, it's his phrase that's trademarked. After a reporter asked Washington Nationals rookie phenom Bryce Harper a question that didn't quite sit right with him, Harper justified his lack of an answer by stating: "that's a clown question, bro." Those five words sure caught on quickly. Under Armor plans to produce t-shirts...

Nationals 3, Orioles 1

Edwin Jackson took a one-hitter into the seventh inning, Adam LaRoche homered, and the Washington Nationals beat rookie Wei-Yin Chen and the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 on Saturday night. Michael Morse had two hits and scored a run for the NL East-leading Nationals, who improved to 10-7 in interleague play and 2-3 against Baltimore. Adam Jones hit his team-high 19th home run for the...

Here’s A Ryan That’s Not A Supremacist

Ryan Zimmerman recently admitted to the Washington Post that his shoulder isn’t at 100%.  I recently admitted to the College of Fantasy Baseball at Charleston Alumni magazine that my pinkie finger has been acting up.  I go to type up some fantasy baseball  advice and it looks like this, “I drafted Ryan Zimmerman, that piece of @#$%^&*”  I don’t reach for the Shift...

Nationals Report Card: June 15-21

This week didn’t start out very well for the Washington Nationals in one of the most hyped series of the season against the New York Yankees. An uncomfortable sweep got some asking questions about whether the Nats had what it took to be a competitive team. One thing to draw from the past week: The Yankees are really good, as usual, but the Nats are a force be reckoned with, too...

Left-side Danny comes through...

"Well, when they walked LaRoche, it kind of pumped me up as far as I knew they wanted to come at me. So in that situation I was just waiting for a pitch..." (Danny Espinosa, via MASNSPorts.com, 6/22/2012) Nationals 5, Rays 2: Just another series win for the first place Nats. Weird Wuss Joe Maddon goes to Joel Peralta for third straight night, Danny Espinosa makes...

Nationals Offense Fails Again In Season-Series Loss To Orioles

The Washington Nationals entered Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles looking to go 4-0 in rubber games this season. All the way into the eighth inning, the Nats looked to have it in the bag when a rare bullpen foul up cost the Nats the game. I’m not blaming this one on them, though. Ross Detwiler did what he needed to in his first outing since returning to the starting...

Nationals and Orioles Complete Battle Of The Beltways Season Series

The Washington Nationals (40-27) will end their battle through the American League East this weekend when they face off against the Baltimore Orioles (39-30). The Nationals began interleague play this season with a loss against the Orioles, but hope to finish in the opposite fashion. When they last met, both teams were sitting atop highly competitive divisions. After over a month...

Joe Maddon Uses Baseball to Share His Thoughts With Nationals Fan (Photo)

Few people can compete with well-known Washington, D.C. heckler Robin Ficker in the age-old art of trash talking. But manager Joe Maddon gave it his best shot Thursday night when his Tampa Bay Rays visited the nation's capital to play the Washington Nationals. Ficker, who has gained local fame in D.C. for being a master at the art of heckling, was picking away at the Rays most...
