Before the Twins played host to the Seattle Mariners on Monday at Target Field, Minnesota general manager Terry Ryan spoke of several players who need to use the last 35 games of 2012 to "give us some hope that they're going to be part of the 2013 club." Among them is Liam Hendriks, who entered Monday's game with an 0-6 record and a 7.06 ERA. Though the Twins took another header in a season quickly spiraling out of control, Hendriks went a long way toward showing the Twins they might be able to count on him next season. He gave up one run on three hits and three walks, fanning six in a career-high nine innings during Minnesota's 1-0 loss. If his opponent hadn't been Felix Hernandez, he probably wouldn't still be looking for his first major league victory. "We were excited," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He matched that guy zero for zero. We've been waiting for this." Hendriks went 21-9 with a 2.85 ERA over 245 2/3 innin...

Twins' Hendriks battles King Felix

MINNEAPOLIS Felix Hernandez's Seattle Mariners teammates are running out of superlatives to call their ace. King Felix will continue to do just fine. Two starts after tossing a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Hernandez picked up another complete game shutout Monday against Minnesota. The Minnesota Twins have recalled first baseman Chris Parmelee from Triple-A Rochester. The Twins announced the move on Wednesday, a few hours before playing the Seattle Mariners. Parmelee has struggled in three stints with the Twins this season, hitting .204 with two homers and six RBIs in 40 games. He has fared much better in Rochester, hitting .338 with 17 homers and 49 RBIs...

De Vries: ''It will be a good flight back''

They say everything is bigger in Texas, but Twins right-hander Cole De Vries' ERA is smaller when he pitches in Arlington. De Vries made his second start of the year in Texas on Sunday and held the powerful Rangers offense -- which scored 27 total runs in the first three games of the series -- to just two runs in five innings. De Vries' performance helped the Twins cap their...

The Boston Red Sox have coveted Minnesota Twins catcher ever since the hometown product was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 MLB First Year Player Draft. It was not as if the Red Sox ever had a chance at drafting Mauer, as they did not even possess a pick in the first round that year, but they have always wanted Mauer in Boston. After the Twins signed Mauer...

Diamond, Twins look to solve Mariners

Seattle (62-67) led in all three contests over the weekend in Chicago, but lost each one after...

One good eye enough to make Vavra a hit

Since he was a little kid, Tanner Vavra has been told what he wouldn't be able to do. But Vavra continues to be an inspiration by proving all of those doubters wrong. Vavra, the son of Minnesota Twins hitting coach Joe Vavra, is an infielder for the Valparaiso University baseball team. He is also blind in one eye, the result of multiple accidents as a child. Despite that fact...
