Dickey looking to become first 10-game winner Power pitcher versus revitalized knuckleballer. Lefty versus rightly. Youngster in his prime versus veteran finding a second wind. The list goes on an on. David Price was supposed to be here. Selected first in the draft in 2007, he has become the ace everyone thought he could be. He started the All-Star Game in 2010 and finished second in the Cy Young voting. He may find himself atop the hill at the midsummer classic as this year’s American League starter. Currently, he stands alone with the most wins to this point. The twenty-six year old Price boasts an 8-3 mark and a nifty 2.40 ERA for the Rays. He’s struck out 70 while walking 27 and giving up 69 hits in 78.2 innings. Good. Not R.A. Dickey good. Dickey, on the other hand, was not such a sure bet for league leader in 2012. Dickey will oppose Price on Wednesday at Tropicana Field, marking only the second time since interleague play began that the league leaders in wins had their teams...

R.A. Dickey: One (Ace) of a kind

While Johan Santana and his pitching of the Mets’ first ever no-hitter rightfully captivated the area and had Mets’ fans practically worshiping him at his feet, it has been the pitching of one R.A. Dickey that is becoming the story this year for the Mets. In case you haven’t heard, Dickey has been pretty good this year. Good doesn’t even begin to describe the roll Dickey...

RA Dickey – From Journeyman to “The Man”

Professional sports, especially baseball, have a way of sensationalizing the efforts of millionaires.  These folks are after all only human, but even still there are times when things just seem too good to be true.  Take for instance the career path of RA Dickey.  I would call his time with the Mets a resurgence,  but that would give the impression that Dickey has done this before...

Dickey’s Recent Stretch Ranks Among The Best In Mets History

Earlier today, my MMO colleague, Clayton Collier wrote a piece on last night’s start by R.A. Dickey being the best by a Met this year.  (I agree with his statement.)  For those who are not aware, on Wednesday night, Dickey was in complete control of his craft.  He pitched his second complete game of the season, struck out a career-high 12 batters and set a Mets’ franchise...

R.A. Dickey brilliant in one-hit victory

The New York Mets made it two-in-a-row against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday evening with a 9-1 victory: R.A. Dickey started for NY and was simply…awesome. In his most dominant performance of the season, the knuckle baller allowed just one-hit, while striking out a career-high 12 batters, en-route to becoming the first Major League starter to reach 10 victories on the year: The...

R.A. Dickeylous! Robert Allen One-Hits the Rays!

R.A. Dickey might just be the best pitcher in baseball right now. Dickey was brilliant on Wednesday night, twirling nine innings of one-hit ball while walking no one and striking out a career-high 12. The merit of the one-hit the Rays did get — a grounder down the third base line that David Wright could’ve gloved but instead tried to barehand and muffed, allowing B.J. Upton to...

Rays turn to Price to shut down Mets

Another dazzling performance could land R.A. Dickey in the New York Mets' record books. Getting at least a win should make him the first pitcher in the majors to reach double digits. Dickey looks to continue his outright dominance by extending his improbable scoreless streak Wednesday night when the Mets face David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays. Dickey (9-1, 2.44 ERA) hasn...

Mets appeal seeking no-hitter for Dickey

Mets' knuckleballer R.A. Dickey's Wednesday pitching line is about as good as it gets -- CG, 0 ER, 12 K, 1 hit. It's the last item the Mets want reviewed by MLB, filing an official appeal of a first-inning play ruled an infield hit. Third baseman David Wright tried to barehand the ball off the bat of B.J. Upton and was unable to field it cleanly. Joe Torre, executive...

Yet another great performance by Dickey

David Wright described it as "a different level." Terry Collins called it "truly amazing." No matter how you describe it, R.A. Dickey's run of success has been nothing short of remarkable. The knuckleballer added to it Wednesday against the Rays, holding them to one hit and one unearned run in a complete-game victory. As a result, Dickey not only won his...

New York Mets Will Not Let Fans Quit on 2012

Try as you may, this 2012 New York Mets team will not let you quit on them.  It seems to be a theme, especially since this team has been labeled ‘overachievers’ all season long.  That kind of label makes people wonder when everything will come crashing down and the Mets will be the cellar dwellers most experts predicted out of Spring.  Now I’m not saying there haven’t...

Dickey allows just one hit -- barely -- in win over Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- New York Mets manager Terry Collins thinks R.A. Dickey threw a no-hitter Wednesday, and he will make an appeal to Major League Baseball to have the feat recognized. Mets third baseman David Wright said he was trying to make the only play he thought he had -- barehanded -- against the speedy B.J. Upton, but he'll gladly take the error. Dickey said it...
