Nate McLouth gave Baltimore a quick start with a leadoff home run and the Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 10-4 Monday night to tighten the AL East race.
Matt Wieters went deep and Adam Jones scored four times for the Orioles, who moved within a half-game of the first-place New York Yankees. Baltimore also opened a three-game cushion over the Los Angeles Angels for the second AL wild-card spot.
Chris Tillman (8-2) allowed one run and three hits over six innings, supported by Baltimore's 15 hits. He struck out four and walked none.
Jones and Tillman were two of the five players Seattle sent to the Orioles in a lopsided trade for left-hander Erik Bedard in February 2008. The right-hander is 4-0 with a 0.98 ERA in four career starts against his former club. Against everyone else, he is 11-17 with a 5.44 ERA.
McLouth, Wieters and Jones each had three hits. Jones' four runs set a season high for an Orioles player.
The Mariners scored all their runs on homers. Michael Saunde...

Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Tommy Hunter was on the receiving end of a not-so-nice of a gift from high above, courtesy of some members of the winged animal kingdom during Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. While warming up in the 16th inning of a marathon of a game (one the O’s [...]
A Winning Season
It’s been a long time for Orioles fans, but the O’s finally have a winning season
It has been 15 years, but the drought is mathematically over. The Baltimore Orioles will end this regular season with a winning record. The Orioles got their 82nd win on Sunday and look to continue to fight for the AL East division lead, but I wanted to focus on the winning...
Most of the time when a Major League Baseball pitcher throws a wild pitch, it usually because he's trying to get the batter out.Back on Sunday night, Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Jim Johnson threw a wild pitch during an intentional walk of all places. It happened in the seventh inning as Johnson tried to set up a double play with an intentional walk of Oakland A's outfielder...
At the beginning of April, there was little reason to believe that the Baltimore Orioles would be anything but a last place team. This was not a new occurrence as the O’s hadn’t put up a winning season since 1997. Aside from the inescapable feeling of hope at the beginning of the year, my expectations for the 2012 season as an Orioles’ fan were pretty grim. Once former...

It’s been a while since the Orioles had at least 82 wins in a season. Yup, that’s right, Baltimore has secured their first winning season since 1997. Which was 15 years ago.
In an article on MLB.com, Brian Matusz had some things to say.
“It’s just another step,” reliever Brian Matusz said following Sunday’s 9-5 win over the Oakland A’s. “It’s a great feeling to...
Matt Wieters hit two solo home runs and Endy Chavez had four hits to help the Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics 9-5 on Sunday and remain within a game of the New York Yankees in the AL East.
Chavez drove in two runs for the Orioles, who have won four of six in snapping a three-game road losing streak. J.J. Hardy, Mark Reynolds, Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Robert Andino...
The Baltimore Orioles initially had said that they would not
promote their top pitching prospect, right-hander Dylan Bundy. A
pennant race and an 18-inning game have a way of changing a
teamâs best-laid plans.
Taylor Teagarden stroked a pinch-hit RBI single to right in the 18th inning to help give the Baltimore Orioles a 4-2 comeback victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
The win allowed the Orioles (84-64) to pull within a percentage point of the Yankees (83-63) for the lead in the AL East. The Yankees were rained out Tuesday and will play a split double-header with Toronto...
Today, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Oakland Athletics, 9-5, and clinched their first winning season since 1997.
After losing the first two games of the weekend series, the Orioles rebounded on Sunday as Matt Wieters hit two homers, Endy Chavez plated in two runs and Chris Davis’s eighth-inning homer put the game away late.
Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy, Mark Reynolds and Robert...
OAKLAND -- The Baltimore Orioles needed something different Sunday if they were ever going to figure out how to win in the Oakland Coliseum. It turns out all they needed was to play in daylight. Baltimore continued its mastery of day baseball, winning for an American League-leading 28th time in 42 chances, to stave off a three-game sweep at the hand of the A's, who as hosts...
The Baltimore Orioles have pretty much had their way with the Seattle Mariners this season, and Chris Tillman has been a major reason for that.
Tillman and the Orioles will look to continue their dominance of the last-place club when the teams begin a three-game series Monday night at Safeco Field.
Baltimore holds a 2 1/2-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels for the AL's second...
