New York Yankees
BALTIMORE - Chris Davis had a two-run single, and Mark Reynolds added an RBI single while starter Wei-Yin Chen threw 6 1/3 solid innings as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees, 3-2, in Game 2 of their American League Division Series on Monday night. The win enabled Baltimore to tie the best-of-five series at one game apiece. The series now shifts to New York for Game 3 on Wednesday at 7:37 p.m. Davis gave the Orioles the lead for good with his two-run single in the fourth. Reynolds pitched in with an RBI single in the sixth, and that proved to be enough, thanks to Chen and the Baltimore bullpen. The Orioles were 29-9 in one-run games during the regular season and came up with another on Monday. Chen was solid and earned the win in his first playoff start. The left-hander bounced back from a shaky first inning to give up two runs on eight hits. Darren O'Day got a key out in the seventh, and Brian Matusz threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Jim Johnson then...
BEST OF MAXIM
People in Baltimore were flying pretty high, with the O's hosting their first play-off game since 1997.
Orioles. Yankees. The two teams fought until the bitter end for the AL East title, and now square off in the AL Division Series. New York sent ace CC Sabathia to the mound, while the O's countered with Jason Hammel, who was their best pitcher this year but had...
Miguel Gonzalez is enjoying the Baltimore Orioles' October attire.
After spending more than seven years bouncing around the minor leagues and recovering from injuries, he's not letting a thing get past him.
Now the rookie right-hander is taking off his postseason sweater and getting ready to pitch in Game 3 of the AL division series against the New York Yankees. He'...
While the Baltimore Orioles weren’t able to take Game One of
their American League Division Series matchup against the New York Yankees,
they did receive a strong effort from starting pitcher Jason Hammel, who’s
returning from a knee injury.
Hammel rejoined the Orioles to take the ball in Game One of
the ALDS. The right-hander allowed two runs on four hits and four walks...
As deflating as Game One was, this O's team wasn't one to quit.
"Even if tonight's game wasn't literally a must-win, going to New York down 2-0 would have been mighty troublesome for the Orioles. They needed a good start from Wei-Yin Chen, and to actually score some runs against long-time O's nemesis Andy Pettitte."
Even with the Playoffs upon us, don't think for a second that baseball players don't have the important issues on their minds.Case in point...Baltimore Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones who hit the Twitters Sunday morning and asked his legions of followers for suggestions on how to wear his pants.Seriously?Seriously.Sure, dude entered the game with a lifetime .341 batting...
The Baltimore Orioles could never have imagined their first home playoff game in 15 years ending with a dismal performance by their most reliable pitcher.
Jim Johnson gave up five runs in the ninth inning, and the Orioles lost to the New York Yankees 7-2 Sunday night in the opener of their AL division series.
Russell Martin hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the ninth, and CC...
The story of the Baltimore Orioles making the playoffs this year, something they haven’t done in fifteen years has been a good one.
Tonight the Orioles played the first game of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees. The game was tied 2-2 until the top of the 9th inning when Russell Martin hit a home run off of Orioles closer Jim Johnson.
It seems that...
The author, because he’s an idiot, mistakenly wrote this preview for the Yankees-Orioles series despite having definitely been assigned the Nationals-Cardinals NLDS, instead, by his fearless editor Dave Cameron. Interested readers can expect full coverage of the Nationals and Cardinals beginning tomorrow (Monday). If you’ve made your way to FanGraphs — and if, furthermore, our...
I’m not sure we’ll do this for every O’s playoff game, but we’ll do it for this one, a 7-2 loss in Game 1 to New York.
Jason Hammel — Hadn’t pitched in a month but matched CC Sabathia for five and two-thirds. Too bad CC went three more.
Nate McLouth — Picked up a two-RBI basehit, plating both of Baltimore’s runs.
Chris Davis — Made two great defensive plays...
Even though the team ended up losing by a score of 3-2 to the Baltimore Orioles in Game 2 of its American League Division Series match-up, New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki made the play of the game when he was able to avoid several tags by O’s catcher Matt Wieters with a series of [...]
Handing out labels following the O’s 3-1 win over the Yankees …
Wei-Yin Chin — The only O’s pitcher to start more than 20 games this year delivered six and one-third of no-earned run baseball. The Yankees will be seeing inside fastballs in their sleep.
Darren O’Day and Brian Matusz — Got out of the Chin-induced jam in the seventh. Matusz had a dominant eighth...
“That man was coaching when I was in my dad’s nuts.” ~ Adam Jones on Buck Showalter
Line: Orioles +1.5

Note: Looks like there’s a rain delay.
The Orioles head to New York to play game 3 from the American League Division Series (ALDS) after bouncing back to take game 2 and even then series at 1-1. In the first two games of the series it has pretty much been neck and neck minus one inning. To me it’s only fitting that for the Orioles magical season to keep going they have to win 2 of the next 3 in New York which is pretty...
