WNST.net - O's players and fans alike will be happy once Nolan Reimold can stay healthy
The Orioles were rumored to be close to trading Nolan Reimold and Alfredo Simon to the Rays for shortstop Jason Bartlett yesterday before the deal fell through. Andy MacPhail made the right decision by not making that trade for Jason Bartlett. Don’t get me wrong, Bartlett is a good veteran shortstop who would have been an upgrade over Cesar Izturis. Just not at the expense of Nolan Reimold.
The Orioles cited Mark Reynolds ability to hit home runs from the right side of the plate as a reason for trading away one of their best young relievers for him. So why would MacPhail then trade away a right handed power hitter in Reimold.
I understand that Reimold had a horrible 2010, but in the previous season he proved that he can hit major league pitching. He also has hasn’t even played one full major league season yet. Give him time and he may just prove to be that power hitter the Orioles are looking for.
