There were lots of firsts for Bud Norris on Thursday night. First time pitching against his old team first start in Baltimore and most important his first win. After it was over he had to fend off his first shaving cream pie. Not even after he got his first major league win was he so honored but then he’s never played with Adam Jones. Jones and Alexi Casilla ran over to him while he was being interviewed on television and 20 minutes later he was still trying to remove the debris from his eyes and ears. Norris was happy to receive the punishment as a reward for the Orioles’ 6-3 win over the Houston Astros before 17909 at Oriole Park. “You see it all the time on the highlight reel and I had a feeling it might come. I’m pretty excited to take it it was exhilarating” Norris said. Manager Buck Showalter saw the frivolity and enjoyed it. “He seemed to be wearing it well so to speak. You didn’t expect anything less did you? Mine’s coming mine’s coming” Showalter said. “I hope it’s late October.” Norris was traded by Houston to the Orioles about 27 hours before he made his start and he got the win by allowing two runs on four hits and striking out a season high eight. In his first Orioles start Norris got to work with Matt Wieters and said he felt comfortable. “I’ve been working a long time in my career to be in a postseason and a pennant race and this is exactly what it is. To be thrown in the fire and to go out there and to be able to control myself and my emotions was pretty special” Norris said. The two runs both came on solo homers Brett Wallace’s seventh in the second and Marc Krauss’ second in the fourth. It was the fourth time this season Norris (7-9) had given up two home runs. Jordan Lyles kept much of the crowd quiet for four innings. In his previous two starts Lyles (4-5) had allowed 14 runs on 17 hits in nine innings but he allowed no runs on three hits in the first four innings.
