Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters missed Friday night's game against the visiting Boston Red Sox after his wife gave birth to the couple's first child earlier in the day, according to MLB.com. It is not known if Wieters will miss any other games. His wife Maria delivered the couple's son, Maverick Luther, at 5:11 a.m. ET. "He's got his priorities where they need to be," manager Buck Showalter said before the game. "He is still at the hospital. ... He has been there obviously for quite awhile without sleep, so we'll see what tomorrow brings. He is where he should be. One thing experience allows you to do as you get older is you try to keep people from making the mistakes you made. So that's about the only advice I've given him." Taylor Teagarden got the start behind home plate and batted ninth. Wieters is batting .252 with 22 homers and 82 RBI in 139 games.

After losing three out of their last four games, the Orioles needed a win in the worst way in game 156 of the season. With a Yankees win earlier in the afternoon, and the Rays, Angels along with the Athletics having won as well on Wednesday, another loss to Toronto would have added more angst to those in Birdland.
However, the Orioles got their swagger back as they went all-homer...

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles honored Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson before Saturday's game with Boston, unveiling a statue of him behind the bullpen in left-center field. It's been one year since the Red Sox were knocked out of the playoffs by the Baltimore Orioles. In the course of the world, that might not be a very long time. On the other hand, looking back at what's happened to the Sox and O's since then, it might as well have been forever ago. This time, the roles are reversed with Baltimore fighting for a playoff spot and Boston...
The end of the regular season is almost here, and, judging by the pace of Friday's game, it can't get here fast enough. Chris Tillman allowed a leadoff single to Scott Podsednik, but that was all the Red Sox could muster as the Orioles cruised past them in a 2:23 game to win 9-1. It was a needed win for the Orioles as they try to keep pace with the Yankees in the divisional...

The Baltimore Orioles are so close, they can taste it. They haven’t been in the postseason for a while but they appear to be in good shape to end that drought. All it takes is one more good week – or one more so-so week – and they’re in.
Playing the role of spoiler will be the Boston Red Sox, who could really use a decent finish to head into the offseason...
