The Baltimore Orioles recalled pitcher Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta figures to serve as an option in long relief. In order to make room for Arrieta the Orioles have demoted Kevin Gausman to Triple-A. Gausman had a 7.66 ERA in five starts for the team but allowed just two runs in his most recent start against Boston on Thursday night. Arrieta was sent to Triple-A three weeks ago after he faltered in four starts for the Orioles this season. After 13 innings on Thursday the Orioles are in need of a fresh arm. In 19 innings of work the 27-year-old right hander has 20 strike outs but also holds a 6.63 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. Expectations of Arrieta should be low. In his last two outings for Norfolk he allowed a total of  15 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings of work. Wei-Yin Chen is expected to return to the Orioles soon and could do so at the expense of Arrieta.

Baltimore Orioles: Chris Davis is soaring despite early career hiccups

Chris Davis watches his homerun jet out of Camden Yards (photo credit: Mark Goldman/Icon SMI) The man they call “Crush” is at it again. This time, Chris Davis ended the game not with homerun smashed onto Eutaw Street, but a bloop single the opposite way that was just out of reach of both Red Sox SS Stephen Drew and LF Jonny Gomes that allowed Nick Markakis to score and gave the...

Chris Tillman, Orioles’ Bullpen Silencing Critics As Baltimore Continues to Be Thorn in Red Sox’ Side

So much for those pitching woes. The Orioles, a team whose 2012 success was due in large part to their bullpen’s dominance, have received inconsistent pitching for much of this season. You wouldn’t know it by watching Baltimore’s back-to-back wins over Boston, though. Chris Tillman turned in an excellent outing on Friday. He twirled six shutout innings en route to earning his...

Orioles 2, Red Sox 0

There's still more than half a season left to play, so there's no reason for the Baltimore Orioles to become overly excited about their current situation. Then again, what harm is there in enjoying the moment? Chris Tillman took a two-hitter into the seventh inning, Chris Davis hit his major league-leading 22nd home run and the Orioles blanked the Boston Red Sox 2-0 Friday...

Seabrooke signs with Baltimore

Tough but not totally unexpected news as BC commit Travis Seabrooke signed with the Baltimore Orioles. The Canadian Lefty was supposed to be one of the guys to help rebuild BC baseball. Others in the incoming class will have to fill the void. Improvement from the guys we have wouldn't hurt either.

Alex Wilson, Red Sox Victimized by Chris Davis’ Walk-Off Bloop Single in 13th Inning (Video)

The Red Sox and Orioles played a 17-inning marathon last season at Fenway Park, with the O’s taking the win on an Adam Jones homer. The two teams went 13 frames Thursday night, but it was a much softer hit then allowed Baltimore to walk away victorious. Chris Davis, who is known for his home-run power, knocked a bloop single into left field off Alex Wilson, bringing the winning...

Sox Can't Reach AA Pitcher; Lose It In 14, 5-4

Patrick Smith/Getty ImagesKevin Gausman hadn't pitched above AA until May 23rd—when he was rocked in his first MLB outing. Last night, however, the Red Sox treated him like he was Cy Young. Boston could only punch through two runs on six hits over Gausman's 5 1/3-inning stint. After tying the game at 4-4 in the seventh, the Carmine Hose remained punchless until the O'...
