MLB Injury News:
The Baltimore Orioles have announced their starter for their
one-game Wild Card playoff against the Texas Rangers, and it’s not going to be
Jason Hammel or Steve Johnson. While the Orioles have instead decided to hand
the ball to veteran left-hander Joe Saunders, Hammel and Johnson could figure
into the team’s playoff equation if they’re able to advance beyond Texas.
The decision of who would start what could end up being
Baltimore’s final game of the 2012 campaign came down to Johnson and Saunders.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter elected Saunders, and he noted that Johnson’s
lingering knee injury impacted his decision.
Still, if the O’s are able to advance to the American League
Division Series Johnson and Hammel, who’s also returning from a knee injury,
should be available.
Utility player Wilson Betemit could also be available this
postseason, as he’s set to resume baseball activities in the near future, but
it wouldn’t be until deeper into the playoffs.

ARLINGTON, Texas Baltimore will go with left-hander Joe Saunders, who has struggled at Rangers Ballpark, as its starter for Friday's American League wild-card game against the Rangers.
Saunders is 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in seven starts for the Orioles this year since coming over from Arizona in an August trade. He pitched six times in Arlington when he was playing for Los Angeles...
The Orioles had their best season since 1997, but the finish left something to be desired in Baltimore. Like a home playoff game, for example. Entering the season's final series in Tampa Bay, Baltimore held its own fate, with the potential for at least one postseason game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. But after Evan Longoria homered three times, the Orioles boarded a...
ARLINGTON-- Baltimore manager Buck Showalter has clearly found a formula that worked for the Orioles as the former Rangers skipper has the Birds in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. And as every Ranger fan knows, the veteran manager has built a roster filled with, well seven of them to be exact, of former Rangers.
This is a diverse group, one including speedy outfielder...

The Orioles' 25-man roster for Friday night's game includes seven right-handers and three left-handers behind lefty starter Joe Saunders, who has never won at Rangers Ballpark.

ARLINGTON, Texas If Rangers fans could take any joy from Friday's wild card loss to the Orioles, it's that so many of the players celebrating on the field used to play for them.
A whopping seven members of the 2012 Orioles wore Rangers uniforms in 2011.
For players like Chris Davis, the moment was especially sweet since it occurred so close to his hometown of Longview...
In a moment eerily similar to when Nick Markakis fractured his thumb, Mark Reynolds was hit in the hand by a Yu Darvish pitch in the top of the second inning. He went to the ground and a team trainer checked him out, but Reynolds was able to remain in the game. He actually went on to steal second base even though he had only one successful steal all season long before that....
Friday in Texas, the Baltimore Orioles will play their first postseason game in 15 years. The 2012 season has been one of rebirth for the franchise, a fresh start after 14 consecutive years with a losing record.
But there's a link between the team's current architect and a tormenter from Octobers past.
Yes, Jeffrey Maier played for Orioles general manager Dan Duquette....

The Baltimore Orioles are moving on after beating the Texas Rangers in the one-game wild card playoff held tonight in Arlington.
Orioles pitcher Joe Saunders gave the Orioles 5 2/3 innings before he handed the game over to the bullpen. Darren O’Day came in and pitched 2 innings giving up only one hit before he was replaced by Brian Matusz. Jim Johnson came in to close out the...
So here they are. The Orioles finally made the play-offs, and they had to travel to Texas to face a team that's beat up on them some this year. They used their best starters trying to win the AL East, leaving them with Joe Saunders as the only really option to take the mound. The same Joe Saunders who was 0-6 with a 9.38 ERA in his career at the Rangers'...
The presentation of Joe Saunders as a joke has escalated ever since the Orioles had the gall to name him starter for Friday’s American League Wild Card game. Nobody is accusing Joe Saunders of greatness, but he has made a living on competency. He has a 98 career ERA- — just slightly better than average. Aggressively competent, even.Still, it’s understandable why Saunders is...
If I would have told you six months ago that the Rangers and Orioles would be in the AL's Wild Card playoff game, I bet you would have imagined that the Angels ran roughshod over the AL West, and that two out of the three top contenders in the AL East had a massive breakdown. Well...that's sort of accurate. But at any rate, here we are, with the Rangers and Orioles and their...
Baltimore’s amazing run through the 2012 season continued Friday night as they defeated the two-time defending AL Champion Texas Rangers 5-1 in the inaugural American League Wild Card game.
O’s starter Joe Saunders who was acquired from the Diamondbacks in August, tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball, out pitching Japanese phenom Yu Darvish. Pirates cast off Nate McLouth, who...
