Baltimore Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis says the neck spasms he is having aren't a concern. Markakis was scratched from Sunday's game and said Tuesday morning that he would take his recovery slowly and expected to be able to play in a few days. He missed substantial portions of last season after suffering a broken bone in his hand and a fractured thumb. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays that he would not play Markakis against Spain on Wednesday. Showalter added that the right fielder could have played had this been the regular season. Markakis played 104 games last year after averaging 160 the previous five seasons.

Jake Arrieta and the “Case of the Empty Bottle of Baltimore Magic Dust”

A sharp eye will reveal a possible sleeper heading into the 2013 MLB Season: Baltimore’s Jake Arrieta. Looking at his peripherals, (8.0 K/9, 3.5 BB/9, 1.1 HR/9, 15% HR/FB, .330 BABIP, and 58% strand rate) it’s easy to cast off Arrieta as another Ricky Nolasco. If someone wanted to make that argument, it would be tough to disagree since Arrieta has failed to reach his xFIP or...

The ever-present oblique strain in baseball is an unpredictable injury in its recovery time.  Some players can sustain the injury, miss a couple days, then be back out on the field.  Others will miss months because of the injury.  Luis Martinez may be one of the lucky ones.  He is nearing a return after suffering a strain. According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore...

The Bluejays now have a star-studded line-up, the Rays brought in new young talent, and the Orioles didn...
