Mark Reynolds began the 2011 season as the starting third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles. Reynolds effectively served as a turnstile at third for the season’s first four months. He went onto make 26 errors in just 114 games at the hot corner. Orioles manager Buck Showalter mercifully shifted Reynolds to first base following the the trade of Derrek Lee to the Pirates. Reynolds defense at first base was much more palatable as he committed just five errors in 44 games.
Now, according to comments Reynolds made to MLB.com, the slugger wants another shot at the hot corner. Reynolds suggests that he has improved his cardio and will be in better shape when he reports to Spring Training. That’s all well and good, but Reynolds’ new-found wellness efforts shouldn’t result in another chance at third base.
