Former Met Endy Chavez is headed to the Baltimore Orioles according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Chavez will earn $1.5 million in 2012 with the potential to earn another $500,000 in performance bonuses. Chavez, 33, played in 83 games last season with the Texas Ranger, batting .301 with five homers, ten stolen bases and 37 runs scored in 256 at-bats. The Mets were reportedly interested in bringing Chavez back, but Endy may have become too costly for the cash-strapped Mets who seem to be at their spending limit. Chavez enjoyed his best year as a Met in 2006, when he drove in 42 runs, stole 12 bases and set career highs in batting average (.306) and on-base percentage (.348), but is best known for making one of the greatest defensive plays in postseason history; a leaping catch at the wall to rob Scot Rolen of a home run in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. Chavez then threw the ball into the infield for an inning-ending double play.

O's Get Endy Chavez; Ravens

On Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles signed veteran outfielder Endy Chavez to a one year deal. Right now, I would think he would fill in as a fourth outfielder – mainly playing left and center field – and perhaps a quick pinch runner off the bench. It looks like Dan Duquette found the fourth outfielder he wanted; however, Chavez is a nice fielder, solid player and certainly has...

Orioles Sign Outfielder Endy Chavez

The Orioles have signed outfielder Endy Chavez to a one-year contract (presumably for something like like $1-1.5 M*). The soon to be 34 year-old has a career .274/.313/.373 batting line, as he doesn't work free passes (5.5% walk rate) or hit for power (.099 ISO). That's not what he was signed for though; Chavez is a very good defensive outfielder, with a career UZR/150 of...

Endy Chavez signs one-year deal with Baltimore

The Mets reportedly met with the agents for Endy Chavez at the Winter Meetings in Dallas, although Adam Rubin of ESPN New York said it was less likely the Mets would sign Chavez after acquiring OF Andres Torres from the Giants. In 83 games for the Rangers in 2011, Chavez hit .301 with a .323 on base percentage with five home runs and 27 RBI and 10 stolen bases.

Mets remained interested in Endy...

I figured after they obtained Andres Torres, that Endy Chavez would would be viewed as a duplication of services. At the very least they would be in the market for a right handed center fielder to platoon with Torres should he look more like 2011 then 2010 or a power bat off the bench who could play better corner outfield then Murph. But according to Andy Martino the Mets remained...
