The Orioles pulled out another victory as they defeated the Cleveland Indians last night on the road, 3-1. They were  aided by Jim Thome – who hit his second homer as an Oriole and 611th in his career – along with a Ryan Flaherty homer in the eighth, plus the arm of Chris Tillman. Tillman was probably the biggest story in the game. After being killed by the Twins earlier in the week, Tillman stepped up and pitched well, going 6 2/3 innings and only giving up a run – off an early homer by leadoff hitter for the Indians, Shin-Soo Choo. No one knew what would happen with Tillman after his scary start in Minnesota, but he showed his ability on the mound and kept the Cleveland offense at bay. The bullpen did the rest and closer Jim Johnson got his 29th save of the season. The Orioles have won four in a row and are now 50-44. They trail the Yankees by seven games in the American League East, and are in a four way tie for the American League wild card with the Los Angeles Angels, Oaklan...

Thome passes Sosa with 610th home run

Check out the video. Baltimore’s Jim Thome hit his 610th home run to pass Sammy Sosa and move into seventh place on the Major League Baseball all-time list. The 41-year-old Thome led off the fourth inning for the Orioles Friday night and connected off Cleveland's Derek Lowe.

Thome belts 610th career homer

The Orioles have added veteran sluggers before. Eddie Murray returned and hit No. 500 as an Oriole in 1996. Sammy Sosa already had 500 when he hit 14 homers for Baltimore in 2005. Jim Thome was acquired June 30 from Philadelphia sitting in a tie with Sosa for seventh all-time with 609 homers. No. 610 came Friday -- his first homer with the Orioles coming in the city where...

Thome Passes Sosa on Home Run List

Baltimore Orioles DH Jim Thome blasted a home run in the fourth inning of off Cleveland Indians pitcher Derek Lowe and passed Sammy Sosa on the all-time home run list with his 610th career homer. The homer was Thome sixth of the season and his first since joining the Baltimore Orioles earlier in the month in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. It seems fitting that Thome hit...

Jim Thome makes even bigger mockery of Indians’ decision to give him a statue before Larry Doby

Odds are, you’re not a Major League Baseball player. But if you were, you’d definitely hit better in ballparks where there was a special section dedicated to a statue of you and how great you are than in ballparks that didn’t have such a section, all else equal. It’s called statue swag, and Jim Thome has it in Cleveland during this four game series in which the Indians have...

Box Score: Orioles 10, Indians 2

The Indians returned to Cleveland for their first home series of the second half. But it was an ugly night at Progressive Field on Friday, as starter Derek Lowe’s struggles continued. The O’s hammered the sinkerballer for nine earned runs in just three innings work. Old friend Jim Thome blasted on of his patented homers to right off Lower — his first since joining Baltimore...

Seven-Up

Seven teams completed series sweeps today. The Blue Jays leap-frogged the Red Sox pushing them to the cellar in the AL East Division by one game in the loss column. The Orioles dropped the Indians, a Wild Card rival, a game below .500 and improved to 9-8 since the June 30th trade for Jim Thome. However, the Orioles deficit in run differential also increased...
