Despite turmoil surrounding the team, David Ortiz said his preference is to remain with the Boston Red Sox.

“Of course, I would like to come back,” the slugger said Thursday. “They have a lot of things going on right now. So once they go through all the stuff, GM and managing things, I think they’re going to start talking to the players. So, we’ll see. We’ve got time.”

Ortiz's comments come after an ESPN interview earlier this month in which he said he'd consider signing with the rival New York Yankees.

“I never said that I would sign with the Yankees,” he said. “They asked me if I would play for the Yankees. I said I would think about it. But I didn’t confirm to nobody that I would play for the Yankees. I’m still a Red Sox, aren’t I?”

Ortiz, who won the Roberto Clemente award Thursday, is set to become a free agent after batting .309 with 29 home runs and 96 RBIs.

The Red Sox are going through an overhaul that has seen manager Terry Francona resign and general manager Theo Epstein on the verge of leaving for a job with the Chicago Cubs.

Allegations also recently surfaced questioning the commitment of some players – namely pitchers Jon Lester, John Lackey and Josh Beckett – for reportedly drinking beer in the clubhouse on days they didn’t pitch.
