The team’s official Twitter announced that Machado will miss 6-8 weeks with a torn Medial Patellofemeral Ligament in his left leg. Estimated healing time 6-8 weeks. — Baltimore Orioles (@Orioles) September 24, 2013 In what comes at the worst possible time, the O’s are still battling for one of the two final Wild Card spots despite being 5 The MPFL attaches the Patella to the Adductor Magnus, and the MCL (courtesy of Dr Chang Haw Chong) games back going into the last week of the Regular Season. While a playoff birth seems unlikely (though miracles have happened before) it will be a much tougher battle without the young star at the Hot Corner. A native of Hialeah, Florida, Machado was the 3rd overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. Showing a vast improvement from last year’s Rookie campaign, Machado hit .283 with 14 homers and 71 RBIs.  Machado injured his knee during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, and was carted off on a stretcher.
