Roy Oswalt lasted only six starts in the Rangers' rotation. Will his stay in the Rangers bullpen be even shorter?

Oswalt pitched two perfect innings in relief Sunday in the Rangers' 7-6 10-inning loss to Kansas City and needed only 30 pitches to do so. But then he told manager Ron Washington he couldn't go any longer, leaving the manager perplexed.

"He said he couldn't go any further," Washington said. "He said he had enough. To get anymore, you have to ask him."

Washington was ready to send Oswalt back out for the ninth inning of what was then a tie game, but Oswalt declined. Washington, who was operating down two relievers -- RHPs Mike Adams and Alexi Ogando needed days off -- and trying to protect a third (RHP Tanner Scheppers) didn't push the issue.

It was the third time Oswalt had pitched in a seven-day span. By the end of his second inning, he'd pitched 9 1/3 innings in that stretch and thrown 150 pitches.

Oswalt, dumped from the rotation earlier in the week, was not available in the clubhouse after the 10-inning, 7-6 loss.
