Found November 12, 2012 on Reading Between The Seams:
San Francisco is a city in high spirits regarding their sports teams right now. The Giants just won the Word Series last month and the 49ers are a Super Bowl contender. Despite playing a resilient St. Louis Rams team to a 24-24 tie yesterday (the first in the NFL since 2008), there was a special guest at Candlestick Park to take in the 49ers game. That guest? The one and only Pablo Sandoval,  Giants infielder and fan-favorite affectionately nicknamed the “Kung-Fu Panda.” Sandoval was wearing his own customized Niners jersey, complete with his number and nickname, as he cheered on his NFL counterparts.   The post Pablo Sandoval rocks customized “Panda” jersey at 49ers game appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.

Gregor Blanco’s rise from obscurity, and his comparison to another postseason surprise

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco came into the 2012 season probably wondering what AAA team could use him as an everyday player. The last thing he could have thought was he would be the Giants everyday LF throughout their run to the World Series Championship. While guys like Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey and Marco Scutaro led the Giants to their victory, Blanco remained a constant...

Report: Melky Cabrera draws interest as free agent

Outfielder Melky Cabrera became persona non grata with the San Francisco Giants after he was suspended in August for a positive drug test, but apparently not every team feels the same way about this year's All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. Cabrera, 28, is now a free agent, and the New York Post reported that at least five teams have expressed interest in his services. The...

Jeremy Affeldt and His Freak Injuries Are Returning to the Giants

Jeremy Affeldt and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a three-year deal worth about $18 million. The Giants pitcher has been known for some of the strange injuries he has suffered, including his most recent one during the postseason. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the deal is pending a physical.  Other teams were showing heavy interest in Affeldt, but the Giants...

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because no deal had been announced. The 33-year-old Affeldt went 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 67 appearances spanning 63 1/3 innings this season for the World Series champions. When the season...

Affeldt, Giants complete 3-year deal

Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and the San Francisco Giants have completed an $18 million, three-year contract. Bobby Evans, the team's vice president of baseball operations, said Wednesday the deal had been finalized -- giving the reliable reliever the kind of job stability he sought once the World Series winners were done with their season. The 33-year-old Affeldt went 1-2 with...

Jeremy Affeldt and Valuing Relievers

Based on reports from the last few days, the Giants have reportedly agreed to re-sign Jeremy Affeldt to a three year, $18 million contract. Predictably, the internet has responded with scorn. Three years for a reliever. Might as well give the money to Jean-Ralphio “@marcoacosta28: @keithlaw you like the Affeldt signing ?” — keithlaw (@keithlaw) November 13, 2012 Multi-year...

Giants sign Jeremy Affeldt to three-year deal

Melky Cabrera Drawing Interest. Really.

Looks like Melky Cabrera still might get a fat paycheck even though he got popped for elevated testosterone levels suggesting PED use. It is being reported that at least five teams have expressed interest in the outfielder. Why? I'm not sure. He still has an incredible arm, but if these teams are going after the Melkman for his bat, chances are they are going to be sorely disappointed...

Giants agree with Affeldt on three year deal

The odd pattern of middle relievers signing multi-year deals looks like it will continue on Tuesday as the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants will be the latest to join the party. Jeremy Affeldt, who has been a key cog in the Giants bullpen over the past four seasons, is close to inking a three year deal worth a reported $18 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS...

Like Kissing The Friendzone

Yes, in addition to commentary on the Giants, we have some characters, and they have lives too! As a disclaimer, since three people will believe otherwise… The topic of this and the upcoming comics are a story I’d planned to touch upon since this comic was first brainstormed years ago.  I wasn’t even planning to do it this week, but the ridiculous cliché about ties and the...
