Two NL West teams have made a deal, according to a report. The Diamondbacks have agreed to a trade with the Padres that will send Ian Kennedy to San Diego in exchange for left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher and prospects. Here is a list of the players and where they are going: Diamondbacks: Joe Thatcher, Matthew Stites and a draft pick in 2014 Padres:  Ian Kennedy Thatcher, 31, is a left-handed relief pitcher and has done very well this year. He is 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA and a 29/4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Left-handed hitters are hitting .215 against him this year, while right-handed hitters are hitting .280 against him. Very good pickup for the Diamondbacks. Kennedy, 28, has struggled this year. It was just two years ago that Kennedy was thought to be an up and coming star in this league. He has struggled this year and is not living up to expectations. The Padres are thought to be buying low on Kennedy. On the year, Kennedy is 3-8 with a 5.23 ERA and a 108/48 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Right-handed hitters are hitting .251 against him this year, while left-handed hitters are hitting .285 against him. For the Padres, this was a great get in a buy low situation. Stites, 23, was drafted in 2010 by the Cubs in the 33rd round, but chose to not go to the Cubs. He re-entered the draft in 2011 and was selected in the 17th round by the Padres. He is a right-handed relief pitcher who is 2-2 with a 2.08 ERA and a 51/8 strikeout-to-walk ratio, so that shows that he has good command. Matt Stites is one of my favorite relief prospects. Plus fastball & slider, lots of strikes, doesn't get hit. Nice get for #Diamondbacks. — Jim Callis (@jimcallisBA) July 31, 2013 This trade made sense for both teams. The Diamondbacks unloaded some salary and got deeper in the bullpen. This move could also help strengthen their pursuit of Astros pitcher Bud Norris who is likely going to be dealt. The Padres bought low on a pitcher who has proven that he can succeed at the big league level. While he may not be pitching well this year, he still has a shot to be a solid pitcher. Maybe a move to the pitchers friendly Petco Park will help him out. Follow Robert on Twitter @RobertMurrayMLB Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?
