When it rains, it pours for the San Diego Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin. After returning from over a month and a half long stint on the disabled list (due to an injured wrist) five days ago, Maybin will be returning to the DL and will miss at least six weeks with an injury to his posterior crucial ligament. In Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Maybin landed awkwardly on his knee in an attempt to catch a fly ball, damaging the ligament in his knee. After missing seven weeks for his wrist, Maybin will be out for a similar time span, which will place his return well after the All-Star Game.In four games back from the DL, Maybin posted solid numbers for the Padres, batting .278 (5-for-18) with a home run and four RBI as San Diego split a four-game series with the Rockies.Over the past three seasons with the Padres, Maybin has sporadically faced health issues, primarily with his wrist (he appeared in 137 games in 2011 and 147 last season).Maybin might require surgery to repair the ligament in his knee, which has been neither confirmed nor determined by the Padres at this time.

Padres Have 99 Problems

…and Second Base Is Probably Going to Be One But, sometimes, there are nice problems to have. Jedd Gyorko, rookie sensation, was having a pretty good season. Rookie of the Year worthy if he kept up the pace. Jedd Gyorko Gyorko crushes ball into the stands and makes outstanding plays at second base. And that’s just plenty for me. Unfortunately, Gyorko just went on the disabled...

Indoctrination 101: What’s the Secret Password?

I recently found that a disturbing number of young people don’t know the name of Tony Gwynn or his historical significance to the city of San Diego. In fairness to these children, the overwhelming majority were born during 2001 when Tony was riding off into the sunset. I don’t blame these kids. I blame their parents. How could you raise your children in the city of San Diego...

A Small Step To Fix A Larger Problem

I’ve lived most of my life in Southern California, which means I do certain things and like certain things.  For instance:  Halloween Night is meant to be spent at Irvine Meadows listening to Oingo Boingo.  Freeways are referred to as the number without an article before them (you take 5 North to 405 North to 10 West.  No ‘The Five’.  Heathens.).  And arguably the best...
