Padres fan dives into bushes for Jason Heyward HR ball A San Diego Padres fan made a hilarious attempt to chase down a home run ball hit by Atlanta Braves batter Jason Heyward by diving into some bushes during Monday night's game at Petco Park. It happened in the top of the eighth inning as Heyward hit the HR to right field and the ball found its way into an alleyway between the bleachers and right field stands. The overzealous Padres fan took a flying leap over a railing into some bushes near the end of the alleyway, but didn't realize that the ball was still bouncing around on some steps in front of the bushes. That allowed another fan to come away with the ball and left the fan in the bushes feeling disappointed, and probably a bit silly. Fortunately, the Padres won the game 7-6, so hopefully that helped the fan cope with the missed opportunity. Video via MLB. Visit us at and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.

This fan literally launches himself over a railing and into some bushes trying to snag a Jayson Heyward home run ball, but he wasn't even close, ouch.

Braves Dan Uggla: Baseball’s Sibyl

Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla can make you shake your head and slam your fist down on the table.  If it wasn’t for maturity and not wanting to injure yourself, that fist could just as easily be put through a wall, or maybe even a window. Sometimes when you see Uggla strike out on three pitches, while looking ridiculous, it makes you wonder if he is suffering from severe...

Kris Medlen does not want to go to the bullpen

Kris Medlen does not want to head to the bullpen when Brandon Beachy comes off the disabled list. Medlen is the only member of the Braves rotation who has experience in the bullpen. Many figured that the Braves would place Beachy in the rotation spot of Julio Teheran. That is far from certain with Teheran pitching better of late. “I’ll let it be known that I don’t want to go...

Haiku-arrhea: Week 10 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task. The Padres went 3-4 this week while playing all of their games on the...

Padres' Jedd Gyorko leaves game with groin strain

The San Diego Padres have one of the National League's top rookies in second baseman Jedd Gyorko. Unfortunately, they may have to play without their rookie sensation for a while.  Gyorko left Sunday's game with the Colorado Rockies in the tenth inning after hurting his right groin while running the bases. Examination on Monday should reveal the extent of the injury. ...

Padres place Jedd Gyorko on DL with groin strain

It was not an unexpected moved.  Jedd Gyorko was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a groin strain.  The move comes after Gyorko had to be removed from Sunday's game after injuring the groin.  The San Diego Padres will monitor him and hope the injury is minor enough to allow him to come off the DL in the minimum number of days allowed. Marty Caswell of...

Braves shouldn't be so quick to trade a starting pitcher

Can a baseball team ever have enough pitching? The general wisdom says no.  Yet the Atlanta Braves may end up facing a tough decision while attempting to answer that question over the next few weeks.  Right-hander Brandon Beachy is nearly ready to return to the Braves' starting rotation, approximately a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In four minor-league...

Braves continue to hammer the baseball

After getting out to such an outrageous start, certain players like Justin Upton and Evan Gattis had to cool off. The torrid pace they set through the first month and a half of the season was unsustainable. And cool off they have. Justin Upton hasn’t homered since May 17, and Evan Gattis has only one hit so far in June, although it was a homer. Their teammates, however, have picked...

Padres’ Cameron Maybin out at least six weeks with knee injury

Further results have determined that San Diego Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin suffered damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury that general manager Josh Byrnes told reporters – including Corey Brock of – will require at least six weeks off. Maybin suffered his injury during Sunday’s contest against the Colorado Rockies...

Braves pitcher Tim Hudson uses rosin bag to dry head

Normally, rosin bags are used by baseball pitchers to keep their hands dry and prevent blisters from building up. Last night during the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson found a new use for it by drying the sweat off of his bald head: Your browser does not support iframes. A Small Step To Fix A Larger Problem

I’ve lived most of my life in Southern California, which means I do certain things and like certain things.  For instance:  Halloween Night is meant to be spent at Irvine Meadows listening to Oingo Boingo.  Freeways are referred to as the number without an article before them (you take 5 North to 405 North to 10 West.  No ‘The Five’.  Heathens.).  And arguably the best...

Magill, Dodgers trounced by Braves

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dan Uggla had two homers and four RBIs, Freddie Freeman drove in three more runs with a double, and Mike Minor kept the Atlanta Braves' rotation rolling with six solid innings in an 8-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Minor (8-2) allowed a run and six hits, struck out six and walked three while helping the NL East leaders gain a split of the...
