Sometimes it’s better to just leave the phone at home. Pictured is Padres fan Travis Decker as he tries icing down his right shoulder after taking getting hit by a foul ball off the bat of San Diego’s Will Venable.  Surely Decker must have had a good reason for not getting out of the way of the projectile as it bore down on him while he was watching the game from his seat in Section 221 of Petco Park. Not quite. Seems Mr. Decker was too busy updating his Facebook status when Venable’s foul ball nailed him.  Seriously, how delicious is that? I’m fairly certain Decker’s status update read something like, “enjoying the Padres game with Bill, Mike and AHHHH SH*T THAT HURT!!!!!” [h/T to Bob's Blitz]

Daily Friar 7.7.12

The hard hitting Padres were silenced last night. The winning streak has come to an end, but six in a row for this team was pretty impressive. The problem is Bronson Aroyo pitches too damn slow! And it doesn't take a physics expert to know that you have to hit a slow looping curveball just perfectly in order to do anything with it. Of course you have to make contact first to...

Reds Run Off Three Straight To Secure Series From Friars

After a successful road trip and a big win on Thursday, the Padres dropped the next three games to Cincinnati to lose the final series before the All-Star break. The losses also snapped the Padres season high six-game winning streak. The Padres won’t play again until Friday, giving their battered rotation time to rest up before the start of the second half of a challenging season...

Arroyo pitches 3-hitter, Reds blank Padres

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Bronson Arroyo pitched a three-hitter, and Ryan Hanigan, Todd Frazier and Zack Cozart homered to give the Cincinnati Reds a 6-0 victory over the San Diego Padres Friday night. Arroyo (4-5) threw his first complete game of the season. He retired 14 of the final 15 batters for the Reds' fifth shutout, but the first solo effort by a starting...

Daily Friar 7.8.12

The Padres lost last night. This time, however, they actually put up a fighting chance instead of doing nothing. There's something I have learned about this team over the past two games. We can't hit anything super slow, a la Bronson Arroyo with his looping curveball. And we can't hit the super fast stuff, like Aroldis Chapman last night hitting 101 MPH. So I think we...
