San Diego Padres
The results have been predictable when the San Diego Padres have faced the Washington Nationals in a matchup of the NL's best and worst teams.
Jordan Zimmermann helped set a Washington record for the longest scoreless innings streak for starters before Orlando Hudson homered and the NL East-leading Nationals beat the Padres 7-2 on Wednesday.
Zimmermann held San Diego without a run for four innings to give Washington starters 26 straight scoreless frames. Hudson ended the streak when he homered to right with two outs in the fifth, his first, on a 1-1 pitch from Zimmermann. The old record was 24 innings in 2005.
The streak began Thursday with four scoreless innings by Edwin Jackson, followed by six scoreless innings each by Ross Detwiler, Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez.
''We have to play a complete team game,'' Padres manager Bud Black said. ''We have to pick it up offensively and we have to pick it up defensively.''

Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is expected to be headed for the disabled list because of a right shoulder injury. Zimmerman will visit a specialist in Los Angeles for a second opinion his inflamed AC joint. If he receives a cortisone shot, then he is expected to be placed on the disabled list, according to the Washington Post. “Hopefully, it’ll just continue...
The Washington Nationals have played all season without cleanup hitter Michael Morse. Now their No. 3 hitter, Ryan Zimmerman, might join Morse on the disabled list. Zimmerman is scheduled to have his sore right shoulder examined Friday in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, and he probably will receive an injection. Depending upon ElAttrache's verdict, the Nationals could put...
The news that Washington Nationals fans have been waiting for has finally arrived, and it's good... mostly. Amanda Comak of The Washington Times reports that Ryan Zimmerman has the A/C joint issue in his shoulder that was reported earlier, but there is no "injury" to speak of in his shoulder. This is stellar news for the Nationals, and Zimmerman feels confident that...
The shot above of Mike Morse photobombing Ryan Zimmerman following yet another walkoff by Mr. Walkoff in 2010 is perfectly appropriate for the news that Zim is not in the Nats starting lineup tonight in San Diego.
Seems like only Saturday Zim was saying stuff like this his sore shoulder:
"It’s nothing. It’s something that I could have played through. It’s been...

There’s a lot going on with the Washington Nationals organization now with a winning ball club, Ryan Zimmerman’s injury with a still unknown timetable, and many other topics. Here are some quotes from Nats GM Mike Rizzo on a variety of topics from his interview at 11:30 this morning on 106.7 The Fan with Holden and Danny.

The best prospect in baseball is going to get his chance in the bigs, as the Nationals are calling up their phenom to take the roster spot of the injured Ryan Zimmerman.
In Monday's installment of "Nationals players signing autographs", we checked in with a video of Ryan Zimmerman signing from his Bentley on his way out of Nationals Park on Saturday. Also on Saturday: a photo of Gio Gonzalez signing an autograph for what appears to be a poodle (Photo via @NationalsPR). Gio starts tonight in San Diego for the Nats.

A Robert Griffen III sighting on MASN between innings of Thursday night's Nats-Padres game at PETCO Park? Yes, on a poster held up by some guys in Redskins gear.
Padres 2, Nationals 1: Alas, RG III unavailable to inject some pop in the Nats offense. Werth's bomb (video here) not enough. Four game win streak halted, Tyler Clippard can't hold on in the 8th.
After placing third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, the Nationals promoted Bryce Harper from Class AAA Syracuse today .
The 19-year-old will make his major league debut Saturday at Dodger Stadium.
The Nationals made the final decision this afternoon, after Zimmerman visited a doctor in Los Angeles, who confirmed that the...
It wasn’t the way the Nationals envisioned it, but nevertheless, Bryce Harper has graduated to The Show. With Ryan Zimmerman heading to the disabled list for the second straight season, the team was looking to put an impact bat, as well as perhaps shift the focus away from Zimmerman’s injury, and thus Harper gets the call.
The reason that it has the chance to come off as little...
The Washington Nationals announced just moments ago that they will be placing Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list, and that they will be recalling mega-prospect Bryce Harper to make his Major League debut this Saturday in Dodger Stadium.
