The San Diego Padres have been quiet this winter, but they could make some big noise if they pull off a deal for one of the hottest remaining free agent pitchers.  The Padres are talking with Edwin Jackson about a multi-year deal, but the question is whether San Diego can keep up with other teams who may be interested. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported Sunday via Twitter that the Padres have been talking to Jackson about a possible deal. #padres are in touch w/ e-jax. #rangers, #others have interest, too — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) December 16, 2012 With the injuries the Padres suffered in 2012 (mostly to pitching), making a deal for a player like Jackson makes sense.  Jackson has pitched 180 or more innings in every season since 2008.  That's the type of workload the Padres could use.  In addition to the injuries players will be returning from this upcoming season, they will not have Andrew Cashner at the start of the season after he suffered an injury after hunting. Jackson will cost the Padres more than they are used to spending, so they will have to be wary of this as other teams negotiate with the 29-year old righty as well.  Jackson made $11 million in 2012.  He didn't have the best season, but he has proven himself as a solid Major League pitcher. In 2012, Jackson went 10-11 with a 4.03 while pitching for the Washington Nationals.  In his career, Jackson has a 70-71 record and a 4.40 ERA. Daily Friar 12.17.12

Hello all! Here we are at a brand new week, and it is a week that I hope can turn into something eventful for the Padres. If I were to take an educated guess as to what the Padres are doing, I would say that you will have a new face in a Padre uniform by the end of the week, I hope anyway. I want to step aside for a second and apologize yet again for not having a Daily Friar for...
