In trading Angel Pagan for Andres Torres the Mets are giving up almost 40 points in in batting average and 30 more strike outs a season. So was the addition of power arm Ramon Ramirez the only reason the Mets down graded an offensive position on a team that will need to score runs. Watching the above posted video Kevin Burkhardt and Andy Martino discuss Angel Pagan's struggles last year which just weren't on the field. Apparently after getting off to a slow start, a struggling Pagan was miserable to the extent Martino and Burkhardt debated whether to consider him a clubhouse malcontent. Like Pagan, Andres Torres struggled last year hitting only .221 while only playing in 112 games due to injuries. But unlike Pagan he was beloved by fans and positive/inspirational leader in the clubhouse. He still only projects to be a 4th outfielder but in reading Giants blogs he plays some stellar defense. This deal appears to be more about the clubhouse then the field...This isn...

Is Centerfield Taken? Mets should bid on Norichika Aoki
Sure, the Mets did get Andres Torres but there is someone else out there who better fits the role of leadoff hitter. Norichika Aoki.
Norichika Aoki was posted a few days ago so there is still time to bid. He’s a slap hitter with a 400+ OBP. A career .329 hitter who won the batting title in Japan, 3 times. He is also the only Japanese player to have 200 hits in a season twice.

New Met Torres: 'Anything can happen'
Just two years removed from a World Series championship, new Mets acquisitions Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez know the expectations will not be as high in New York as they were in San Francisco. They also know they have the power to change that.
Met hellos for Ramirez and Torres
Bridge load, meet bridge ballplayers. Andres Torres (under team control for two more years) and Ramon Ramirez (one year) will be gone by the time the Mets are ready to contend. Their stay in Flushing coincides with a transitional period for the franchise, both on the field and financially, and they will be asked to help keep the team out of last place during the bridge years.
Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
There were three guys I wanted gone. Sad that our winter checklists these days include who we want gone instead of who we want to arrive. Angel Pagan was one. The other was non-tendered tonight. Now when I hear non-tender I get all tingly thinking it's going to be Mike Pelfrey. Instead, it was the third player on the list: back-up catcher Ronny Paulino. I know for some of you...
