Rafael Palmeiro is now a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. He hopes someday Cooperstown comes calling as well. But he's not going to grovel. ''My lobbying was done on the field,'' Palmeiro said. ''That's it. I'm done lobbying. If that's not good enough, I'm not going to beg these writers who have the power of the vote. I'm not going to say anything to them. If what I did on the field isn't good enough for them, then I'm good with it.'' Palmeiro was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame on Friday night in downtown Jackson. The 47-year-old played his college ball at Mississippi State during the early 1980s, when he and Will Clark were part of a formidable lineup that led the Bulldogs to the College World Series. Palmeiro later became one of just four players in big league history with 3,000 hits and 500 homers, but his stellar career was overshadowed by a positive test for performance enhancin...

Nick Markakis at Home at the Top

At long last, Nick Markakis has been made the team's leadoff hitter. I have suggested such a solution several times on this blog but it's hardly a revolutionary idea. Since the collapse of Brian Roberts' performance and body, there is no one else on the team who demonstrates such patience and on base skills as Markakis does. Nolan Reimold was the only player who comes...

Dylan Bundy’s Curveball Curves

Hell of a week for Dylan Bundy. First Sports Illustrated gives him the Tom Verducci treatment. Then it was reported that the O’s plan on moving him to Double-A at 19, just one year out of high school. And now this video of his epic curveball is making the rounds (via The Big Lead). Enjoy it at the 50-second mark, and look forward to it, O’s fans. It may be bending in Baltimore...

Orioles 6, Rays 2

Chris Tillman took a three-hitter into the seventh inning, Chris Davis homered and drove in four runs, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 Thursday to avoid a three-game sweep. Nick Markakis had two hits for the Orioles, who had scored only one run in each of their three previous games. It was just the second time in 10 games that Baltimore scored more than four...

An Unexpected Battle For The Post-Season

Before the season, few would have predicted that a late July series between the Oakland A's and the Baltimore Orioles would have post-season implications. But the two most surprising teams in the American League are in the middle of the race for the post-season and are playing three games in Baltimore this weekend. On Friday, the A's prevailed in a thriller. Chris Biderman...

Athletics rally to beat Orioles

A back-and-forth duel that featured 31 hits and lasted four hours was decided by one final outburst by the Oakland Athletics. Jemile Weeks hit an RBI single to give Oakland the lead during a six-run ninth inning against All-Star closer Jim Johnson, and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 14-9 on Friday night. Thanks mostly to Johnson, the Orioles were 41-0 when leading after...
