Will Sandoval win his first Gold Glove? (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Carlos Beltran and Pablo Sandoval have been nominated as potential Gold Glove award candidates, according to a tweet from the San Francisco Giants.

Beltran is no stranger to the annual award, given to the best defensive player in the league at each position. The 32-year old free agent has three Gold Gloves on his resume (2006, ’07, and ’08, all with the Mets).

The 32-year old right fielder was spectacular again in 2011, committing just one error in 241 chances as a right fielder (for a .996 fielding percentage). He added 10 assists with three of those resulting in double plays.

Sandoval is a newcomer to the party.

Giants fans might remember he was a wreck in the field in 2010, but an intense off-season workout regimen helped him lose close to 40 pounds. The more-nimble and quick Kung Fu Panda responded by having a terrific year defensively, committing just 10 errors at the hot corner in 295 chances (.966 fielding percentage). He turned 16 double plays.

Sandoval is going up against Philadelphia’s Placido Polanco and St. Louis’ Daniel Descalso. Beltran’s competition is Dodgers’ right fielder Andre Ethier and Cincinnati’s Jay Bruce.

The winners will be announced tomorrow night around 7:00 pm, Pacific time, and televised on ESPN 2.
