With the season fast approaching the injuries are already starting to pile up. Today we delve into two players whose playing time should be beneficial to your fantasy team in the first weeks of the season.Gerardo Parra, OF, ARIYou know the name, it almost seems like he has been around forever. I get it, it sounds like a boring option, but with Adam Eaton out six to eight weeks and Cody Ross expected to start the season on the DL, Parra becomes an instant everyday player and definitely has mixed league relevance. When you pick him up off the wire, no one in your league is likely to “ooh and aah” but that’s OK because you will know that in only 90 games as a starter last year he hit .273 with 7 HR and 15 SB. This is a very respectable pace and one you should look to take advantage of for the first two months of the season, with potential for more. Let’s not forget, although Eaton is seven years younger, this is the same injury that forced Carl Crawford into Tommy John surgery last summer.Matt Carpenter, INF/OF, STLWith David Freese slated to start the season on the DL due to a back strain, more regular playing time will be available for ultra-utility man Carpenter—and now at his natural position. Unlike other infield utility guys who I would normally define as versatile defenders with “scrappy” wood work at best, Carpenter may actually provide your fantasy team a reliable dose of offense. He was always an excellent hitter in the minor leagues (career .299 BA and .408 OBP), and in limited major league time last year (about 300 AB) he hit .294 with 6 HR and around 45 R and RBI.  Sure, there was always talk about him playing 2B this year, but I never fully bought into him having great success there—though I guess it was better than nothing.  Now, at least in the short term, he will have a chance to start the season defending his natural position.  It is looking more like a certainty than a possibility that Carpenter reaches 450 AB and gaining five position eligibility this year. An absolute find for an NL-only league, he may also work his way into having mixed league value. As usual, comment or ask questions on this page or via twitter @ANodBaseball
