From the Frumpy Hobbit’s Twitter feed: Buster Olney reports Mark Prior is throwing on flat ground, plans to work out for scouts. BYOT: Bring your own towel. RT @Buster_ESPN Given the state of Prior’s shoulder when doctors finally operated on it, it’s quite likely that Mark Prior, whether he was throwing a baseball or a towel, spent much of his career in Chicago in an excruciating amount of pain. And despite the laundry list of injuries Prior sustained, and the repeated attempt by the likes of Sullivan to paint him as some sort of hypochondriac ninny, Prior kept trying to come back. Just like in the past, Mark Prior, despite serious setbacks in 2008 and 2009, is once again trying to come back. So what’s the responce from the person charged with imparting factual information to the fans? Insipid, unimaginative mockery. BYOT. How pithy. Look, Paul, I imagine you’ve worked long and hard to cultivate your hideously androgynous appearance. I also imagine it takes some amount of time for your reptilian nerve center to cobble together enough complete sentences to produce one of you spiteful, quote-padded columns. But for you to mock someone for picking themselves up off the mat after years of torturous rehabbing, repeated setbacks, further injuries and numerous medical procedures medical procedures is beyond even your usual standard of dishonest, petty character assassination. In fact, it nearly confirms what many have suspected of those in you line of work for many years: that years spent covering superstar athletes has resulted in a rancorous and petty jealousy that colors everything you write. These men, these human men, have become little more in your eyes but a means for exalting yourself by tearing them down. You are charged, in your professional ethics, with seeking, at all costs, to be objective, yet every jot and tittle from your poisonous pen is little more than agenda-driven hatemongering. You, sir, are an ass. A petty, vile, banal, and cruel ass, and if you had even half the care for your craft and half the drive to have success in it as Mark Prior does for and in his craft, I would have never had occasion to write this ranty thing. Unfortunately, you cannot rise to that standard of excellence, but then you already knew that, didn’t you. (H/T to WV23)
