It’s been reported various places that San Diego has now completely given up on this season and is ready to send Jake Peavy and his many guaranteed moneys ($60.35M) to the Chicago White Sox for the apparent bounty of pitchers Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda and two other prospects.
The only thing keeping this deal from immediately happening is Peavy’s approval. The Cy Young would prefer to pitch in the Midwest, and for a National League team. Teams like the Cubs, Astros, Braves and (bafflingly) Brewers had been rumored to be potential destinations in the offseason.
Peavy has reportedly said the trade is “something to think about.” I’m pretty sure that’s the reason for no trade clauses… the ability to think about a trade. But...
