Found December 19, 2012 on Ted's Army:
The Red Sox are announcing the signing of Ryan Dempster at a press conference right now, and just beforehand said they've DFA'd RHP Pedro Beato.  Beato was the consensus assumed choice among Red Sox-related chatter this morning on Twitter after word came down regarding Dempster's press conference being scheduled. The Sox' 40-man roster is full, according to WEEI's Alex Speier. The Sox have been slow to make a lot of these moves official, which could mean that they're trying to figure out the best way to make some of these roster decisions. Maybe they have trades in the works. Maybe they just don't know which players they like best.  As it stands now, Mike Napoli and Stephen Drew are still not officially signed, so the Sox have two more decisions to make.

Your Morning Dump...where Pedroia likes the Stephen Drew signing

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. "I'm sure we're signing Stephen to go out there and play," Pedroia said. "Iggy, I'm sure he understands that. He understands he needs to get better and there are things he needs to...

Is Stephen Drew's contract that unreasonable?

Immediate reaction from Red Sox fans, myself included, was negative about Stephen Drew's deal. After all, $9.5 million sounds steep for a guy who suffered a massive ankle injury that disrupted his last two seasons (and who played poorly around that injury). I've since read a couple of defenses of the deal (including Jonah Keri's at Grantland and Rob Neyer's at SBNation...

CBS: Teams asking Red Sox about Salty

Not a lot of hard facts in there, but this tweet from CBS' Jon Heyman suggests what we've all assumed for a while: Jarrod Saltalamacchia is most likely to be the odd man out in the Boston catching situation. Nonetheless, Heyman doesn't find a trade all that likely. And there are some factors that point toward Heyman being right. There aren't many catchers who hit...

Your Morning Dump... where Cody Ross is still kinda sorta an option

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Cody Ross is still in free agent limbo, awaiting a team to sign him to the three-year deal he’s been seeking. The Red Sox say they’re still in it, but with Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino added to the outfield...

Red Sox Sign Drew

By  SBRForum.com It has certainly been an interesting offseason for the Boston Red Sox.  They have teased many big time acquisitions for the team but have rarely pulled the trigger on said targets.  That was certainly not the case this past Monday, however, when the team announced that they had signed all star shortstop Stephen Drew to a one year deal to play for the team.  Whether...

Ryan Dempster’s Ability to Take Ball Every Fifth Day Will Be Huge Asset to Red Sox’ Rotation (Video)

If there’s one thing Red Sox fans can be sure of this season, it’s that Ryan Dempster will be ready to take the ball every fifth day. Dempster, who has been a workhorse in recent years, was officially introduced as the newest member of the Red Sox by general manager Ben Cherington on Wednesday. The right-hander joins the Red Sox on a two-year deal, and should help bolster a rotation...

Ryan Dempster Will Add Stability, Innings to Red Sox’ Rotation (Video)

Looking at the Red Sox’ rotation heading into 2013, the one thing the team was missing was innings-eater. Aside from Jon Lester and (arguably) Clay Buchholz, the team didn’t really have an established guy they could count on for a quality start every five days — until they signed Ryan Dempster. The 35-year-old may not be quite an ace, but he adds stability to the starting five...

Ryan Dempster Would Be Shepherd If He Wasn’t a Pitcher, Claims George Carlin Is Still Alive (Video)

Ryan Dempster is known around the Major League Baseball world as a jokester. His Harry Caray impression, for instance, is pretty well-known and popular and tends to follow him wherever he goes. Dempster will be bringing that humor to Boston, as the right-hander was introduced as the newest member of the Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon. As part of his introduction to his new city and...

Ryan Dempster Ready to Get Down to Work After Being Officially Introduced as Member of Red Sox (Video)

The Red Sox’ starting pitching was subpar in 2012, and general manager Ben Cherington is looking to make sure that isn’t the case against this season. The Sox officially introduced Ryan Dempster at a news conference at Fenway Park on Wednesday, and Cherington was quick to point out what exactly the team saw in the right-hander that made him an offseason target. Dempster, who...

AP source: Red Sox agree to deal with Stephen Drew

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that shortstop Stephen Drew and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract. Drew will take a physical before the deal can be finalized, the person said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the agreement was not complete. Drew hit .250 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 39 games...

Stephen Drew Will Bring Outgoing, Laid-Back Personality to Boston, According to Brother J.D. Drew

J.D. Drew admits that there are a lot of similarities between he and his brother, Stephen, who reportedly inked a one-year deal with the Red Sox on Monday. However, he also understands the two differ in plenty of ways. “The thing is, Stephen is not nearly as guarded as I am,” J.D. told WEEI.com. “He’s more outgoing. He may even come across that way to me because, you know...

Koji Uehara Officially Signs One-Year Contract With Red Sox (Photo)

It was widely reported that veteran reliever Koji Uehara had agreed to join the Red Sox bullpen, and that became official on Tuesday morning. The Red Sox officially announced the signing of Uehara to a one-year deal. While the financial terms of the deal were not enclosed, Uehara’s one-year contract will be reportedly worth $4.25 million. The signing also gives the Red Sox a full...

Red Sox Make Dempster Deal Official

With still no new news on the Mike Napoli contract situation, the Boston Red Sox made the signing of RHP Ryan Dempster official on Wednesday. To make room for Dempster on the 40-man roster, they designated RHP Pedro Beato for assignment. Here's the full release from the Red Sox: BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Dempster to a two...

Vote: Which Red Sox Starting Pitcher Will Win the Most Games in 2013?

Ben Cherington stood in front of the media on Wednesday to introduce his newest signing. Starting pitching, Cherington said, was one of the areas the club was looking to upgrade in the offseason. The way they plan on doing that, apparently, is to add veteran right-hander Ryan Dempster, who was introduced on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park. The veteran starter has seen varying...

Red Sox announce Uehara signing

The Boston Red Sox announced the signing of reliever Koji Uehara on Tuesday. Uehara, 37, will receive a one-year deal with a $4.25 million base salary, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The righty posted a 1.75 ERA in 36 innings in 2012, but missed time with a strained lat muscle. He'll join Andrew Bailey and Junichi Tazawa in Boston's bullpen. The Red Sox have...
