Pitching deep into almost every game, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best.  How does Miami compare after their ace has worked?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

TAL’S HANDY STATS

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:

I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number after the title will be based on the quantity of outcomes played by the Phillies.

Tal’s Handy Stats will be delayed until the daily article’s feed is completed.

REASONING For The Stats:

These numbers are a glimpse over the pitching coach’s shoulder, because they warn of difficulty ahead. The rule of thumb is that the bullpen load should be no more than 33.3%, which is a 6-complete average per scheduled outing. That is why going a distance into the game is 6.1 frames or more, which is 70.4%. The added detail of 1 out per contest is 54 innings over the long summer’s course. This also shows the mound masters that give the relievers a well deserved night off, but there is a rust factor due to lack of backend chances. If there are any questions, please ask.

Hamels falters in first post-signing start against Braves

In a game the Phillies had to win, Cole Hamels and the Phillies offense faltered in a 6-1 Braves win. In five innings, Hamels gave up five runs, three earned, struck out seven but walked six in five innings. The defense was shaky, as with two outs in the second, as Mike Fontenot let a ground ball tie him up and the Braves went ahead 2-1. With two out in the bottom of the 5th, Brian...

Hamels walks six in loss to Braves

ATLANTA -- Two days after signing a six-year, $144 million contract extension, Philadelphia Phillies starter Cole Hamels walked a career-high six batters in five innings -- his shortest outing of the season. That played a big part in the Atlanta Braves beating Hamels and the Phillies 6-1 in the first game of a three-game weekend series between the long-time National League East...

Hamels Not Himself as Phils Lose 6-1.

Final: Phillies 1, Braves 6. WP: Ben Sheets (3-0, 0.50 ERA) LP: Cole Hamels (11-5, 3.31 ERA) Cole Hamels's first start since signing his 6-year extension did not go quite as one would expect. He allowed five runs to cross the plate over just five innings pitched, while walking a career-high six batters. The Phillies could not pull off a late-innings heroic comeback for their...

Sheets, Braves beat Hamels, Phillies

ATLANTA (AP) -- Brian McCann hit a three-run homer off Cole Hamels and Ben Sheets continued his impressive comeback to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 on Friday night. Braves Snap Phils Four-Game Win Streak with 6-1 Victory

Cole Hamels made his first start tonight since signing his six-year contract extension. He's coming off a loss against the Giants in which he allowed five runs on ten hits. This wouldn't be a much better start in Atlanta. The Phillies scored first off of Ben Sheets. Sheets has made two starts this season for the Braves, and he did not allow a run to score in those...

Holding Aces

With Cole Hamels’ newly signed contract extension (six years, $144M), the Phillies now have $128M tied up in salary next season for just seven players - Hamels, Roy Halladay, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Jonathan Papelbon, Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. CBS Sports baseball columnist Jon Heyman reportsthat the Phillies do not plan to trade 33-year old pitcher Cliff...
