Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies is the best 2 in the NL East.  Our immediate rivals have what level of strength behind their 1-slot hurler?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

TAL’S HANDY STATS

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:

I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number after the title will be based on the quantity of outcomes played by the Phillies.

Tal’s Handy Stats will be delayed until the daily article’s feed is completed.

REASONING For The Stats:

These numbers are a glimpse over the pitching coach’s shoulder, because they warn of difficulty ahead. The rule of thumb is that the bullpen load should be no more than 33.3%, which is a 6-complete average per scheduled outing. That is why going a distance into the game is 6.1 frames or more, which is 70.4%. The added detail of 1 out per contest is 54 innings over the long summer’s course. This also shows the mound masters that give the relievers a well deserved night off, but there is a rust factor due to lack of backend chances. If there are any questions, please ask.

Dubee Says Halladay Will Start On Tuesday

Roy Halladay will start for the Phillies on Tuesday. (AP) After watching him throw a 28-pitch bullpen session earlier today, Rich Dubee announced that Roy Halladay had completely recovered from his shoulder strain and will start when the team visits the Dodgers on Tuesday. Phillies Will Try to Re-Sign Hamels

Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies Numerous reports indicate that the Philadelphia Phillies will make one final push to sign left-hander Cole Hamels before deciding whether to trade him. The Phillies and Hamels’ agent John Boggs have not had much contact in the past month plus, but that could be about to change. As the Phillies resume their schedule after the All Star break, it...

More Injuries, More Savery: Raul Valdes Hits the Disabled List; Joe Savery Up from AAA

Well, at least it wasn't someone TOO important.  The latest 2012 Phillies casualty to the disabled list is left-handed reliever Raul Valdes.   Valdes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain, and left-handed reliever Joe Savery has been recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley to take his place. Valdes has been moderately effective, going 2-2 with a 3.80...

Phillies Kick Off Second Half With Weekend Set In Colorado

The Phillies had one of their first halves in ten years, going 37-50 headed into the All-Star Break. Well it's only been four days since they played, but I'm sick and tired of seeing this team playing like crap as well as being sick and tired of being negative about this team. So for the beginning of this second half I am going to be positive about this team because it...

Quiet Night After Quiet Bats, Bullpen Embarrass the Phillies

I am testing out my new iPhone app to write this so I apologize if it comes out a little weird. After last night's demoralizing loss to the Colorado Rockies, the atmosphere online was eerily quiet. The beat writers and presumably the players were all silent. The storyline was the same: poor offense, poor bullpen, Phillies lose. The Phillies' website had a positive...

Ruiz, Utley, and Worley with Multi-RBI Night; Phils Defeat Rockies 7-5

Image courtesy of Matt Sautter  The Phillies were looking for a quality start from Vance Worley tonight to snap out of their five-game losing streak. Impatient at-bats last night led to a 6-2 loss, and a terrible way to kick off the second half of the season. Thankfully, an outburst of offense gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead in the first inning. First, Chase Utley singled to left...

Roy Halladay to Return on Tuesday Against Dodgers

Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw a rehab start on Thursday night in Single A Clearwater. He pitched 3 innings, gave up two hits and an unearned run. Yesterday, Halladay threw another bullpen session and more importantly was cleared to come off of the disabled list. Halladay will make his first start on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s good news for the Phillies...

Phillies 8, Rockies 5

Vance Worley pitched into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double, Carlos Ruiz added a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak. Worley (5-5) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out two and walked two, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and benefited...

Report: Angels, Dodgers, Rangers Scouting Cole Hamels Today; Dodgers Eying Jimmy Rollins?

While the Phillies may be preparing a large offer for Cole Hamels, other teams salivate on the sidelines, hoping that he may be available.  They are also apparently doing their homework for potential trades.  CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury reports that the Angels, Dodgers, and Rangers are all scouting Cole Hamels' start today in Denver. Further, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman...

Phils Down Rockies, Snap Losing Streak

Tonight, the Phillies downed the Colorado Rockies 8-5. For the Phils, who had lost five straight, and 11-of-12, coming into the contest, it was a much-needed victory. Phillies hope to avoid rocky start to second half

Troy Tulowitzki remains out with an injury as the Phillies head to Colorado to face the Rockies. (Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso) If there is going to be a huge comeback from the Phillies, it has to begin now. In the short term, the Phillies drew a good opponent. The Colorado Rockies are in fourth place in the NL West with a 33-52 record, one of only a handful of teams below the...
