Kendrick (5-9) struck out six and allowed five hits to improve to 9-2 against the Marlins in his career. Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 26th save in 29 chances by pitching a scoreless ninth after Josh Lindblom pitched the eighth. Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a home run to right field to provide the only scoring. The Phillies also blanked the Marlins 4-0 on Monday, with Cole Hamels throwing a complete game. The Marlins have been held scoreless for their last 27 innings. Marlins starter Josh Johnson (7-9) tossed eight innings, allowing one run and three hits while striking out seven. The Phillies would not record another hit until the fourth, when Domonic...
BEST OF MAXIM
Cole Hamels was stellar. He tossed his second straight complete game shutout, this time against yet another NL East opponent in the Marlins. He gave up six hits, one walk, and punched out five. Here’s his line: 9.0 IP/6 H/0 R/0 ER/1 BB/5 K. Here are some other story lines from tonight’s game:

Outfielder Nate Schierholtz, who was acquired by the Phillies in a trading-deadline deal that sent Hunter Pence to the Giants, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right big toe. It's unclear whether Schierholtz's injury will require surgery, but if it does, his season may be over. Schierholtz sustained the injury in his only at-bat on Sunday. He was...
There was an awful lot going on in last night’s 1-0 Phillies win over the Marlins. And it all began with just the second pitch of the game which Jimmy Rollins sent screaming over the right field wall for the 41st lead-off homer of his career.
That turned out to be the only run of the game, which was also a record-setting game for Rollins. He picked up his 1,731st game at shortstop...

Do me a favor, and don’t look at today’s lineup. You’ll think you’ve jumped in the hot tub time machine back to March. It’s a Clearwater lineup, and an ugly one...
The Miami Marlins were shut out for a third consecutive game on Tuesday and have now gone without a run for 27 consecutive innings. The Philadelphia Phillies picked up the 1-0 win thanks to a lead-off home run by Jimmy Rollins. The scoreless streak ties a franchise record for Miami. The loss also moved the Marlins to two and a half games behind the Phillies for fourth place...

The Marlins' 3rd base coach, Joey Espada, decided to go down literally as a foul ball came his way off of Lee's bat.Watch as Espada dives a little prematurely. Make no mistake: They are playing out the string toward an October without postseason baseball in Philadelphia for the first time in six years. The Phillies were trailing by one when the eighth inning began, and Manuel summoned righthander B.J. Rosenberg, who had an 8.53 ERA in six appearances.
By the time the inning mercifully ended, Miami had sent 10 men to the plate and scored...

MIAMI (AP) -- Cole Hamels pitched his second consecutive shutout for the Philadelphia Phillies in a 4-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday night.
Hamels, coming off a five-hitter against Atlanta last Tuesday, scattered seven hits and struck out five in his sixth career shutout and 12th complete game. He walked one and threw 85 of 113 pitches for strikes.
It was the first time...
Juan Pierre’s hustle and back up catcher Eric Kratz’s game-tying home run brought a smile to my face in an 8-7 win over the Cardinals on Sunday, it is not the same as if the Phillies were four games back.
The Phillies are 52-62, again 10 games below .500, they are 18.5 games behind Washington and 12 behind the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates (a real feel-good story).
MIAMI -- Cole Hamels hasn't had much success against the Miami Marlins this year, but that changed on Monday night. Hamels pitched his second consecutive shutout, carrying the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 win over the Miami Marlins. "Obviously I haven't done too well against them recently, but it's just a matter of making pitches, hitting the target, and being...
Cole Hamels throws his second straight shutout against an NL Eastern Division opponent as the Phils beat the Marlins, 4-0.
The Phils took the lead in the third as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits an RBI double, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third base on Juan Pierre’s single, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead,...
MIAMI (AP) -- Greg Dobbs drove in the Miami Marlins' first run in 31 innings, then hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth off Roy Halladay to help them beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2 Wednesday afternoon.
